At Snyder’s side, as always, will be his wife and business partner Deborah Snyder, who will produce alongside the director and Wesley Coller through the trio’s Stone Quarry label.
And as for the script, Kurt Johnstad, who worked with Snyder on ‘300’ and the ‘Rebel Moon’ films, has returned to co-write.
Here’s what Snyder told the Reporter about the new project:
“Years ago, Dan [Lin, Netflix’s head of film] and had a conversation about our shared interest in telling a compelling, visceral, character-driven story set in the intense, complex, and captivating landscape of the LAPD. It’s a conversation that has stuck with me. “So, as expected, I am very excited to now have the opportunity to partner with Dan, along with the rest of my incredible partners at Netflix, to develop this story.”
It will also allow the director to make up for an old missed opportunity: years ago he was assigned to direct ‘SWAT’ for Sony when it was trying to transition from music videos and commercials to feature films. It didn’t work out due to a disagreement over the rating (Snyder wanted it to be an R-rated film; the studio preferred PG-13).
