Woolies is blasted over simple check-out act that has divided Aussies

A shopper has taken aim at Woolworths after claiming a staff member refused to pack her groceries at the check-out.

Dasha Daley, who posts on TikTok as lambotrophywife, had decided to use the staff-managed check-out instead of the self-serve kiosk at the supermarket in Surfers Paradise.

But instead of the worker bagging her groceries like she expected, the items were left on the conveyer belt for Ms Daley to pack herself.

‘I couldn’t believe it because that’s the first time that’s ever happened to me, that they just wouldn’t pack my bags with what I’ve purchased,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I just stood there and I was waiting and she was quite rude. I’ve never experienced that before.

‘When you go to Aldi, that’s normal, you pack your own bags. But I thought in Coles and Woolies that they do that for you. I was a bit shocked (that she didn’t).’

Ms Daley said despite her hinting that she needed help bagging her groceries, the worker said ‘Are you paying cash or card’.

‘She didn’t care and she was just rude,’ Ms Daley said.

Ms Daley admitted she should’ve spoken up but was ‘in shock’.

‘I kind of wish I did now, but I guess I’m just a bit of a shy person,’ she said.

‘As you can see in the video, I was actually being nice. I even apologised (to her).’

Upon realising she wasn’t going to get any help with her groceries, Ms Daley started recording and later posted footage of the encounter on TikTok.

‘I’m like, this is not normal. Woolies has a self-checkout where you scan and then you pack your own bags,’ she said.

‘So what was the purpose of me going (to the regular checkout) if they don’t even pack my bags?’

As well as being taken aback by the interaction, she was also surprised at how her video has gone viral online.

‘There were so many comments on my TikTok. A lot of people agreed with me, but then some people were like, “Oh, why don’t you just pack your own bags?”,’ she said.

‘But no, I think that’s what they’re paid to do, right?’

Ms Daley said the incident has put her off going back to that Woolworths outlet.

‘I think they would have seen my TikTok by now and I’m too embarrassed to go back there. But yeah, it does, it has put me off,’ she said.

‘Maybe I’ll just go to Coles. Hopefully they’ll pack my bags, or I’ll just go to Aldi.’

The one good thing to come out of it all for the influencer is that ‘everyone’s talking about it’.

Among the more than 1,000 comments on her post, most have supported Ms Daley.

‘They should be packing your bags!!! Woolies and Coles pack bags. Aldi doesn’t. This isn’t right,’ one commented.

‘Their job isn’t to just scan it’s to also pack.’

Another person, claiming to be ‘a Woolies manager’, said ‘this is totally unacceptable, her customer service is atrocious!’

But a commenter who also said they ‘work at Woolworths’ posted about how it’s seen from the cashier’s point of view.

‘Sometimes I get so annoyed that people are SO picky with how they want their bags packed they get so annoyed that they do it cause I don’t do it “right”,’ they said.

Some commenters did not support Ms Daley, though, with one suggesting she ‘put your damn phone down and pack the bags as she’s scanning’.

Woolworths has been contacted for comment.

A spokesperson previously told Daily Mail Australia staff are expected to bag customers’ shopping.

‘Our teams work hard to serve thousands of customers to the highest standard every day, however, we don’t always get it right,’ they said.

‘Our checkout operators are expected to bag groceries at our manned checkouts if that’s the customers wish, as per our bagging policy.’
