Woman, 55, dies after her scarf got tangled in a conveyor belt at a factory ‘and strangled her to death’
A Spanish factory worker was ‘strangled to death’ after her scarf was caught in a sorting belt.
Emergency services responded to calls at around 7.30am today after the unnamed woman, 55, was found lying on the ground unconscious in a factory in the town of El Campillo.
Paramedics, civil guard and the fire brigade rushed to the factory but despite their best efforts to save the woman’s life, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is understood that the scarf the woman was wearing became stuck on a conveyor belt.
According to Spanish outlet Antena 3, the Labour Inspection and Occupational Risk Prevention Centre are looking into the incident.
Local reports have also said that a post-mortem is expected to show that the factory worker died from strangulation.
The horrific incident comes almost a year after a baggage handler at London’s Heathrow airport suffered brain damage after getting her scarf caught in machinery and being dragged away along a conveyor belt.

Jasbir Sahota, 52, had been working at the airport for 30 years when she was left seriously injured after the incident on February 14, 2024.
She had been unloading luggage from a Loganair flight arriving in the capital from Dundee when she got the item of clothing caught in the machine.
The incident caused disabling injuries, as well as brain damage, leaving Mrs Sahota in need of specialist care.
The events in the Spanish factory also come more than a decade after a five-month-old baby was crushed to death on a baggage carousel at Alicante airport in Spain.
American mother Nathania Terry had landed in Alicante in September 20213 after flying with her baby daughter Vashti and her older son.
Vashti was sitting in her car seat. Ms Terry then placed Vashti’s car seat on a stationary belt while she reached to retrieve her baby’s stroller from the end of the belt.
Without warning, the belt turned on and threw Vashti into a crevice where two different conveyor belts abutted.
Ms Terry frantically rushed to recuse her baby, her efforts were unsuccessful, resulting in Vashti being crushed to death.
