Will Trump Reshape the West’s Path to Recovery?

Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din

Donald Trump is far from perfect and doesn’t always get it right, but he stands as the last hope for a faltering West, writes The Telegraph. The key decisions of the newly elected U.S. president are expected to transform global politics for the better, including for the UK, according to the article.

For many, it seemed as though Western civilization was in its final days. Yet, Trump emerges as an unexpected savior, a president uniquely positioned to save the Old World from its own follies.

The UK and Europe appear to be in a state of despair, mired in intellectual and moral decline, weakened institutions, a struggling economy, cowardly political leaders, and a powerful establishment. With their ability to act diminished, these nations are trapped in high taxation and virtue signaling.

Trump’s presidency promises to jolt the West out of this socialist stupor. By increasing defense spending, shaming nations into taking stronger stances against extremism and antisemitism, and inspiring bold action, Trump could shift the global Overton Window sharply to the right. His approach may set a model for stricter border control, tougher crime policies, and rejecting overly lenient governance.

Economically, Trump plans to stimulate growth by reducing taxes and deregulating industries, enabling entrepreneurs and tech firms to thrive. His focus on meritocracy aims to create a society that values ability over identity politics.

On the geopolitical stage, Trump views China as the most significant rival since fascism and communism. His administration seeks to curb Beijing’s ambitions and its technological surveillance state. Trump’s approach includes severing economic dependencies and urging allies to reassess their reliance on Chinese goods.

Trump also challenges the entrenched climate agenda by prioritizing abundant and affordable energy, including both carbon-based and green options. Additionally, his immigration policy emphasizes stricter controls and streamlined systems to restore sovereignty.

On the domestic front, Trump aims to expose failures in handling the pandemic, holding accountable those who caused harm, and appointing skeptics of past isolationist policies to key health positions.

Trump’s administration is poised to be one of the most pro-Israel in U.S. history while taking a hardline stance against Iran. His support for Israel signals a broader effort to counter global antisemitism and stand firm against threats from international organizations and rogue regimes.

The conflict in Ukraine represents a tough challenge. While Trump aims to de-escalate the war swiftly, he also seeks to balance outcomes without emboldening Russia. At the same time, he urges Europe to bolster its own defense systems.

If Trump can achieve even a fraction of his ambitious goals, his second term may redefine the trajectory of Western politics, demonstrating a viable alternative to the progressive status quo.
