Wife is left mortified after her husband takes an innocent bathroom break at the pub – and she’s not the only one
A young woman recently experienced an ’embarrassing’ encounter some have described as every wife’s ‘worst nightmare’ in public – and she’s not alone.
The anonymous Aussie was out dancing with her husband – but when he went to the bathroom strangers raced up to her and asked if she was being harassed.
Comedians and former Triple J hosts Matt Okine and Alex Dyson shared the anecdote on their podcast All Day Breakfast.
The hosts had gone out to dinner with the couple in question, who had then ventured elsewhere for a post-meal dance.
‘This is how to ruin a stranger’s night,’ Matt said, adding that the pair dubbed the awkward run-in ‘the worst thing that’s happened’.
‘The couple is at this pub, having a dance, the song finishes and [the husband] goes to the toilet.
‘[The wife] sits down and some girls come over to her and say “Hey, if you need saving from that guy, please let us know”.’
The woman couldn’t believe that a bunch of strangers assumed she was being harassed by her life partner whose only crime, perhaps, was a few over-enthused dance moves.
An anonymous Aussie was in public and dancing with her husband – but when he went to the bathroom strangers raced up to her and asked if she was being harassed
‘A couple of good samaritans saw the situation and obviously thought he was hassling that lady,’ Alex laughed.
‘The husband is unsure of what to do or how to move forward from this moment,’ Matt said.
‘Those girls felt sorry for that poor, poor woman who was being subjected to this sleaze’s advances.’
Many other Australian women reported similar instances where their husbands were reprimanded in public.
‘On vacation, there was a guy playing music at the restaurant we were drinking at and he started playing my favourite song so I ran up to get a seat in front,’ one recalled.
‘My very intoxicated husband followed shortly after and started hassling me to dance with him which I didn’t want to do. The musician stopped playing to yell at my husband to leave me alone and let me enjoy the song.
‘Bless him for being so chivalrous and trying to stand up for me!’
Another said, ‘This happened to me! A girl whispered to me “don’t go home with him” and I’m like… I live with him. We’re married.’
A man wrote: ‘If I were her I’d laugh about that for weeks. But it’s not as funny when you realise that’s what’s women have to do for each other.’
A few men joked about the encounter.
‘This will probably happen to my wife one day,’ one wrote.
‘The way my jaw just dropped,’ a second added.
‘Devastating,’ another said. ‘I would go thank them for looking out for her, they deserve a round for that.’
