Why MAFS’ Awhina Rutene Didn’t Introduce Her Son To Adrian Araouzou During Homestays
Married At First Sight (MAFS) bride Awhina Rutene has always been unsure about how her on-screen husband Adrian Araouzou would relate to her son. Now, as we finally enter homestay week, Awhina reveals why she decided not to introduce Adrian to her child.
In a chat with Yahoo! Lifestyle, Awhina revealed that she decided not to introduce Adrian to her son because she didn’t feel confident enough in the relationship to take such a big step.
“There was so much uncertainty in my relationship with Adrian,” she said.
“I guess it was such a chaotic relationship at this point. Yes, we are in a better and healthier place, in that moment. But I’ve never introduced anyone I’ve been intimate with to my son before, and there was no way we were at a place where we were strong enough, or our connection was strong enough to kind of introduce him to my son.
“At this stage, I didn’t know if it ever would be.”
Adrian and Awhina’s relationship has certainly gone through some ups and downs during their time on MAFS. However, Awhina notes that the experiment is the easy bit, and maintaining a relationship in real life is much harder.
“We were very much living in the experiment where there’s no external pressures besides the challenges that were getting given to us every day. And even those challenges seem so much harder for us than some of the other couples,” she continued.
“So it was like, without all these external pressures and we’re struggling, it just wasn’t a safe space to invite my son into.”
Awhina being a mother has been a source of tension for the couple. Even during their wedding, Awhina felt nervous to disclose that she was a mum after Adrian made a joke about being a dog dad.
It later became an issue during the honesty box challenge when Adrian revealed that he would struggle to love a kid that was not biologically his as much as one that was.
With all this ongoing tension, it might come as no surprise to MAFS fans that it doesn’t seem like Awhina and Adrian are still together after the show. However, Awhina isn’t giving any spoilers away and confirmed to PEDESTRIAN.TV that she still speaks to Adrian daily.
