What is Werewolf? New superpower – The Seer – set to electrify tonight’s Traitors is pinched from cult card game beloved by England footballers

For fans of BBC One’s reality sleuth show Traitors, it’s already been five long days since the last episode aired on Friday evening.

And anticipation for tonight’s show is all the more fervent thanks to the tease of a new superpower for one of the contestants who’ve made the final week.

With just three episodes left until Friday night’s crescendo episode, the programme has mixed things up this year, with the introduction of The Seer, a character lifted from Werewolf, the cult card game that the show is based on.

The show’s brand new twist was revealed by host Claudia Winkleman in the final moments of the last episodes, as she told those gathered at the round table: ‘Someone will win an extraordinary power that could turn the entire game on its head.’

A camera also panned to a glimpse of a book spine, which read The Seer, appearing to confirm what the superpower is.

The reality show is loosely inspired by Werewolf, also known as Wolf, with The Seer being a key character in the game.

The card game has won fans for decades with its requirement for both strategic thinking and impressive acting skills, and has been dubbed the ‘party game for devious people’.

In the game, The Seer is able to guess at the Werewolf’s true identity in secret, and can then go on to help ‘the Villagers’, the equivalent of ‘the Faithfuls’.

Werewolf, rated 10+, sets a small informed group called the ‘wolves’ against the uninformed majority known as the ‘villagers’. Each group tries to deceive the other in order to win.

On the home straight, but could the traitors be undone by The Seer? An unexpected twist will hamper Charlotte, pictured, and co-traitor Minah’s path to the projected £120,000 prize pot

Based on a game of roleplay and deduction called Mafia which was developed by Russian creator Dimitry Davidoff in 1986, it has some famous fans.

England footballers Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold incorporated the game’s imagery into their goal celebrations at the Euro’s last year.

Jude Bellingham marked his crucial goal against Serbia in the tournament by dropping to one knee and covering his face with one hand – while Alexander-Arnold mirrored the gesture.

The Real Madrid star told the BBC last summer: ‘When we play Wolf, one of the staff loves that face when he doesn’t have a clue what is going on so that was a little group celebration for the Wolf crew.’

Other characters that might be incorporated from the game in the future includes Doctors, Witches and a Village Drunk – who must spend the entire game acting inebriated – amongst others.

Tonight’s episode sees Traitors Charlotte Berman, English but speaking with a Welsh accent to try and gain trust, and Minah Shannon will edge ever closer to the prize fund, which could rise to up to £120,000 by the final episode.

A source said: ‘Assigning one Faithful as The Seer could mean ripping the power from Charlotte and Minah’s hands and flip the entire game on its head.

‘If one player is able to have a Traitor’s identity secretly confirmed, that would make all the difference at the final round table.

‘All will be revealed, but installing The Seer would be an amazing twist.’

Heading into the Final Week, Traitors Minah and Charlotte join Faithfuls Alexander Dragonetti, Francesca Rowan-Plowden, Freddie Fraser, Jake Brown, Joe Scott and Leanne Quigley striving to add to the prize fund.

On Friday, fans were left ‘gutted’ after Leon became the latest faithful to be banished after being wrongly accused during the roundtable.

Suspicion fell on the retail worker after he survived the dreaded death match earlier this week and failed to prove to his innocence to his fellow faithfuls.

Fans were quick to spot not all was well after Minah and Charlotte, who is still faking her Welsh accent, returned to the tower to plan their next murder.

When Minah suggested the pair should stick together and share the money following the final, Charlotte failed to respond, leaving many to believe she would soon be throwing her pal under the bus and taking all the dosh for herself.

Meanwhile, whether Alexander Dragonetti wins the jackpot or not, he’s certainly earned himself heartthrob status – with fans of the show branding the former British diplomat ‘too sexy for this game’.

Interest in the 38-year-old with ‘Bond vibes’ soared when The Traitors host Claudia Winkleman confirmed Alexander is single during a recent episode of the BBC sleuth gameshow.

It appears that the dashing Londoner is also ready to mingle, after some TikTok users posted screenshots from what appears to be Alexander’s online dating profile – sparking a frenzy of interest from women in the comments section.

Grabs from Alexander’s alleged Hinge profile included several pictures of The Traitors star as well as responses to three prompts.

Answering a question about ‘my simple pleasures’, the Hinge user believed to be Alexander replied: ‘I enjoy foreign supermarkets, the graphic that pops up when my email is empty & buying fruit I’ve never seen before’.

When asked to complete the phrase ‘I bet you can’t’, he replied: ‘Beat me in a dancing competition.

‘Prove me wrong,’ ‘Alexander’ dared any prospective matches.

According to the profile, the Hinge user – who fans are convinced is the real Alexander – is 5ft8, attended the University of Oxford, and currently lives in London.

He also shared ‘two truths and a lie’ about himself, including ‘I’ve lived in Palestine, Pakistan, and Nigeria’ and ‘I am the Secret Garden Party pun champion’.

After his alleged profile on Hinge – a location-based dating app which matches users based on where they live – was unearthed, fans noted how the responses were a perfect match to his ‘adorable’ personality on the show.

One comment read: ‘Stop he’s adorable.’

Another user said: ‘I fear he is exactly my type.’
