Arab Defense Website, November 18, 2024: Brigadier General Daoud Sheikhan, Deputy Commander of Air Force Operations of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, denied on Sunday that Tehran had submitted any request to obtain the Russian air defense system.S-400“, noting that the existing systems of the Revolutionary Guard “far exceed the capabilities of the S-400.”
In a television interview, Sheikhan explained that Iran had previously deployed the Russian S-300 air defense system and was limited to using it only.
Sheikhan’s statements contradict previous statements by Iranian officials that indicated Iran’s interest in purchasing the S-400 system. These statements reflect contradictions in Iranian discourse regarding developing and strengthening its defense capabilities.
