“Water” cooperation agreements between Egypt, Somalia, Kenya and Nigeria

Egypt has strengthened its partnerships with African countries in the field of water and water resources management, through cooperation agreements with Somalia, Kenya and Nigeria, on the sidelines of the “Cairo Water Week” conference, which concluded its activities last week.

The Egyptian Minister of Irrigation also agreed with his Kenyan counterpart, Eric Morrissey Moga, on a “memorandum of understanding, which includes A plan for cooperation between the two countries on water issues, which includes “exchanging experiences between the two sides, and supporting the Kenyan side, in the field of training and capacity building in the water sector,” to be added to other efforts implemented by Cairo in the field of groundwater and rainwater harvesting.

Suwailem discussed, with the Somali Minister of Energy and Water Resources, “procedures for preparing a memorandum of understanding, in the field of water resources management, training, and capacity building,” which includes “providing technical support to improve water management, early warning of drought and flood, and training Somali cadres.” In the water sector.

The activities of the seventh edition of “Cairo Water Week” were launched on the thirteenth of October for five days, and simultaneously hosted the ninth edition of “African Water Week,” under Egypt’s presidency of the Council of Water Ministers. Africans (AMCAW).

The conference also witnessed the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding with the Netherlands and ICARDA, and the signing of the “European Green Facility Initiative” between the Ministry of International Cooperation and the European Union, in addition to launching the awareness campaign “On the Move” To educate the masses about water conservation and rationalize its use.
