VIDEO. A month after the deadly floods, victims participate in the Valencia marathon to rebuild their lives

Run to remember. Just one month after the deadly floods which hit the Valencia region in Spain, the city organized its traditional marathon this Sunday, December 1st. After considering canceling the race, the organizers finally decided to maintain it in order to send a “embrace to this wounded city and a promise of recovery“.

For some participants, hard hit by the disaster, this race represents a break. Pascual, a resident of Catarroja, one of the towns most affected by the floods, sees the marathon as an opportunity to rebuild. “We cannot accept one more defeat. Doing this marathon is a way for us to get back on top.

With a minute of silence before the start of the marathon, the emotion was palpable. For each participant who completed the race, three euros were donated to the victims. In total, 700,000 euros must be raised. It is also a way of paying tribute to the victims and contributing to reconstruction.
