The event builds off of Variety’s existing “Doc Dreams” franchise, a video series highlighting the filmmakers behind the year’s leading documentaries. Previous “Doc Dreams” participants include the filmmakers behind “Free Solo,” “Fire of Love,” “The Vow,” “The Rescue,” “Being Mary Tyler Moore” and many more.
“Bringing the Variety ‘Doc Dreams’ franchise to life allows the numerous awards voters in New York to hear directly from contenders in this year’s race,” said Dea Lawrence, chief operating and marketing officer of Variety. “Variety has always been a strong supporter of the powerful medium of non-fiction storytelling. In addition to our video series, ‘Doc Dreams,’ we have a section on Variety.com completely devoted to documentary filmmaking. Each year we produce ‘Truthseekers Summit’ in New York alongside our sister-brand Rolling Stone featuring conversations with the best in documentary filmmaking and investigative journalism.”
All conversations will be recorded and published on Variety.com following the event.
