A California-based mochi ice cream company has issued an urgent nationwide recall after an undisclosed ingredient was discovered in its product.
My Mochi recalled 1350 cases of Peach Mango Sorbet on Thursday after undeclared pasteurized cooked egg whites were detected in the food item, putting people with allergies at risk.
There have been at least two reports of ‘minor’ allergic reactions linked to the sorbet sold in stores including Target and Wegmans, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The company initiated the recall after someone realized the ice cream’s packaging did not have egg whites listed in the ingredients.
After an investigation, it was concluded that this error was the result of a temporary breakdown in My Mochi’s manufacturing process, according to the FDA’s statement.
The batches involved in this recall have lot numbers 337-24 and 341-24. My Mochi and the FDA have urged costumers who have bought the sorbet to return it to the store they bought it from for a full refund.
According to the Mayo Clinic, eggs are the most common allergy-causing foods among children.
After eating eggs, children who are allergic may experience symptoms anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours later, ranging from mild to severe.

These symptoms include rashes, hives, nasal congestion vomiting and digestive issues. In rare life-threatening cases, children who are allergic may experience anaphylactic shock.
My Mochi began as a pastry company in Japan in 1910 and brought its mochi ice cream to Los Angeles County decades later, according to the company’s website.
‘In 1993, a Japanese confectioner combined traditional mochi with ice cream in Los Angeles,’ the website reads.
The brand described its mochi as ‘a delicious, multi-textural sensation of cool, creamy premium ice cream wrapped in sweet, pillowy rice dough.’
This popular ice cream brand’s announcement came shortly after Walmart recalled 12,000 cartons of their Great Value Chicken Broth across nine states.
The reason for the recall is, ‘potential for packaging failures that could compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage.’
The broth had an expiration date of March 2025. The cartons are printed with the UPC code ‘007874206684.’

There have been no reports of any customers getting sick. The affected states are Alabama. Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.
‘The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,’ a Walmart spokesperson said.
‘As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted product from the select, impacted stores. We are continuing to work with the supplier to investigate.’
Customers who believe they may be affected should dispose of the cartons and can obtain a refund.
