‘Underrated’ movie with perfect Rotten Tomatoes score hailed as ‘the new Yellowstone’ as viewers rave ‘it ticks every box’
An ‘underrated’ movie with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score has been hailed as ‘the new Yellowstone’.
Viewers of LaRoy, Texas have raved that the crime comedy ‘ticks every box’ after watching the flick.
LaRoy, Texas hit our screens in the UK at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2023, and was then released by Brainstorm Media in the US in April 12 2024.
The blockbuster, which is one hour and 50 minutes long, follows the tale of a man called Ray (John Magaro) who gets mistaken for a hitman and ends up getting himself into a load of trouble.
It also stars the likes of Steven Zayn, Dylan Baker, Megan Stevenson, Matthew Del Negro and Brad Leland.
LaRoy, Texas is written and directed by Shane Atkinson.

It is produced by John Magaro, Caddy Vanasirikul, Sébastien Aubert and Jeremie Guiraud.
LaRoy, Texas has ended up getting 100 per cent on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.
There have been plenty of positive comments about the flick online – which has been compared to the Coen brothers, and neo-Western drama Yellowstone.
One has said: ‘Fabulous directing. Perfect casting. Outrageous cinematography. Not quite as gruesome as Yellowstone.’
Meanwhile others have just shared how much they loved watching it.
Another said on Rotten Tomatoes: ‘Unpredicable fun and some blood-letting for color. We loved the quirkiness of it from a story standpoint, and Steve Z. Is always worth watching. Fever dream-like, the film draws you in like a spider and weaves a nice web.’
A third chimed in: ‘Refreshing. Will for sure keep you on your toes.’
‘Great story, great acting! Fantastic movie,’ a fourth wrote.

Another chimed in: ‘A modern western, with grit and a dash of dark comedy. Think southern Fargo without the Minnesota dialect.
‘The actors are spot on for their respective parts.
‘I enjoyed the ending, but could be easily convinced it should have been better.’
A sixth added: ‘I laughed! A lot! A very entertaining dark comedy. Every actor plays their part perfectly. I look forward to watching it again!’
While others commented on the similarities of LaRoy, Texas with the Cohen brothers.
One simply said: ‘It was similar to the films of the Cohen brothers.’
Another added: ‘Great movie, Cohen Brother’s style.’
‘Genuinely excellent. Surprisingly good and very Cohen brother like. This odd buddy crime dark comedy really ticks all the boxes and ends as strong as it starts.
‘Yes is absurdly implausible but it’s so much fun you quickly forget about the destination and just enjoy the ride. All the cast are excellent and the direction and writing truly shine,’ a third confessed.

It comes after Yellowstone fans all said the same thing after the recent shocking finale.
The much-loved programme premiered in 2018 and has gone on to have 53 episodes across five successful series.
Yellowstone wrapped up in 2022.
Fans were over the moon when it was revealed that there would be two spin-offs – these include 1883 and 1923.
The season instalment of prequel 1923 will continue in February this year.
