
The new Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, Anna Claudia Rosbach, said that the 12th Urban Forum, which Cairo will host next Monday, is a distinguished event organized by Egypt this year, as Cairo is a city with a long history and rapid urban population growth, and Cairo also represents challenges. As well as the possibilities in achieving sustainable urbanization.
Rosbach added – in her speech today during Cairo Urban Week at the Grand Egyptian Museum on the sidelines of the 12th Urban Forum – that the forum is expected to witness a large and high participation. Level being the largest event related to urban development in the world, it is important to have such a forum, as we live in a time of change and conflict. She explained that culture and history are the soul of the city, as culture is the means to go to the future, and we have mastery of knowledge in order to see and interpret what is coming, noting that this forum about culture and cities will help us in this matter and create a solid ground from which to start, and we will discuss how we define cities within the framework of cultural values. At the end of her speech, Rosbach thanked the Egyptian government, partners, and the UN-Habitat team, saying: We have an opportunity to make this World Urban Forum a turning point in our collective efforts to build sustainable, inclusive and resilient cities.” Cairo hosts the activities of the 12th session of the World Urban Forum “WUF12” Organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (Habitat) in cooperation with the Egyptian government, under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, along with the Ministries of Local Development, Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities during the period from 4 to 8 November 2024, the forum is the second largest event on the United Nations agenda. , after the United Nations Climate Change Conference. It is noteworthy that Egypt will be the first African country to host the World Urban Forum since the inaugural session in Nairobi, Kenya, and the second Arab country after Abu Dhabi to host the tenth session. The Forum is the first global platform on the international agenda, which is concerned with addressing all aspects, sectors and fields of sustainable urban development.< /p>
