UN calls for investigation into assassination of Palestinian journalists

The United Nations called for a full and transparent investigation into the killing of Palestinian journalists Ismail al-Ghoul and Rami al-Rifi, and other similar incidents.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric stressed, in a press conference, the importance of journalists being protected, stressing the need for accountability.

He added: "We of course clearly condemn the killing of journalists."

The journalists "al-Ghoul and al-Rifi" were martyred. Directly targeted by the Israeli occupation air force in Gaza City.

Video clips showed the car the two journalists were traveling in turned into wreckage, with smoke rising from it and blood splattered on its remains, after it was targeted by the Israeli occupation in the Al-Shati refugee camp in the center of Gaza City.

Since the outbreak of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, more than 157 journalists have been martyred, in addition to the destruction of 100 headquarters of press institutions, the arrest of more than 100 journalists, most of whom are still under arrest in the occupation prisons, and the forcible disappearance of 4 fellow journalists without knowing their fate to this day, based on human rights reports issued by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.
