Uber driver assaulted: Woman pepper-sprays Uber driver from backseat of car

UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — An Uber driver was pepper-sprayed by a passenger for no apparent reason.

Video provided by the driver shows a woman lunging forward from the back seat, reaching out and spraying the man in the face.

The incident occurred Friday near East 65th Street and Lexington Ave. on the Upper East Side.

Police have since arrested Jen Guilbeault, 23, and charged her with assault.

In the back seat was a second woman who appeared horrified by the attack. She is not facing charges.

An Uber spokesperson released a statement saying:

“The actions of the driver shown in the video are deplorable. Violence will not be tolerated and the driver has been banned from the Uber platform. We will support the police in their investigation in any way we can.”
