Twist in Bali brawl saga as Aussies embroiled in punch-up at Finns Beach Club walk free

Four Aussies questioned over a brawl with 15 security staff at a famous Bali club have been released without charge, while one remains behind bars.

Indonesian authorities tracked down five foreigners, believed to be Australians, who were allegedly caught up in the melee at North Kuta venue Finns Beach Club on Tuesday night in which four bouncers were injured.

Local police confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that one of the group, known by the initials MR, has been detained as a suspect in the brawl while the remaining Australians were ‘witnesses only’ and have been released.

Bali Police spokesperson Senior Commander Ariasandy said police have questioned four witnesses and have 11 more to question on Monday.

‘Based on the results of the investigation, statements from witnesses and evidence, investigators from the Bali Police Criminal Investigation Directorate have named one suspect in the name of MR, a 28-year-old Australian citizen. He is now detained at the police station,’ Snr Cmr Ariasandy said.

Daily Mail Australia previously revealed police are now investigating two separate complaints, with the bouncers and the group of tourists both accusing each other of assault.

Snr Cmr Ariasandy said one complaint was lodged by the head of security, 53, at Finns Beach Club and the other was from the 28-year-old Australian.

‘The investigating are still ongoing. The Australians have filed another report to police for group violence. They reported at least 15 security [staff] who allegedly have assaulted them,’ Snr Cmr Ariasandy said, ‘We are investigating both reports.’

No arrests have been made or charges laid at this stage of the investigation with Bali Police and Badung Police handling one complaint each.

Snr Cmr Ariasandy said police had collected CCTV footage from inside and outside the world famous beach club.

‘The footage shows when the Australian man [was being] escorted from inside the club. When [he] arrived outside, the security guards were seen assaulting him.

‘Four other Australians later arrived and security guards also assaulted them.’

Snr Cmr Ariasandy reiterated police haven’t come to any conclusions.

‘The investigation is still underway. The incident was not as simple as we seen in the video that circulated at social media,’ he said.

Australian security consultant John McLeod is a former police officer who now helps Aussies who get intro trouble overseas. He previously worked to help free convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby from jail in Bali.

He described the wild scenes filmed on Tuesday night as ‘unacceptable’.

‘A couple of months in an Indonesian police holding cell may assist these drunken tourists [to] think about their options,’ he told the Herald Sun.

‘We are deeply concerned and saddened by the recent incidents of alcohol-fuelled violence involving Western tourists directed towards Balinese locals who are simply trying to make a living and support their families.

‘Such behaviour is unacceptable and does not reflect the respect and gratitude that visitors should show towards the Balinese people and their culture.’

The violent clash erupted in the car park of Finns Beach Club on Tuesday night about 9.40pm local time.

Police believe the five men were foreign tourists, with one previously formally identified as an Australian.

The nationalities of the other four men have not yet been confirmed.

Police alleged the Australian man harassed a woman inside the club before he was evicted and then he turned on security.

‘The security there saw one of the alleged perpetrators strangling another guest sitting at another table,’ Scnd Isnp Sukarma said.

‘The cause was allegedly a row with a woman there.

‘The incident ignited (the Australian’s) emotions. An argument was unavoidable until (he) strangled another customer at the table.’

Club security tried to break up the scuffle, causing the Australian man to allegedly raise his middle finger at one of the guards.

Police claim he had previously been warned for anti-social behaviour before he was kicked out of from the venue. It’s alleged the Australian resisted the security guards and assaulted them in the car park.

A guard tried to secure his hands before four other men ran into the car park and allegedly began beating and hitting him.

Footage showed a shirtless man restraining a cowering security guard as another man appeared to beat him with a bollard. Following the brawl, three shirtless men could be heard saying ‘let’s go’, before the group fled the scene.

Police said security staff suffered serious injuries in the confrontation.

One guard had his teeth and nose broken, and suffered a significant laceration to the back of his head. A second guard suffered a bite wound to his hand and cuts to his arm, while two others suffered bruising and head abrasions.
