Truth about the ‘suspicious item’ under Rhi’s dress: After a week of damaging rumours, the MAFS star breaks her silence… and turns the tables on ‘sleuths’ who think they know it all

We all have a self-described ‘MAFS expert’ in our friendship group.

You know, the type who watches every episode, pores over the Reddit threads, stalks every participant and their dog on Instagram – and even follows those muckraking meme accounts run by the likes of Joshua Fox and Daily Mail’s own Ali Daher.

Well, the downside of being such a Married At First Sight tragic is that sometimes you get hung up on a rumour that simply isn’t true.

And when you repeat that false rumour, you end up causing real damage.

Case in point, MAFS bride Rhi Disljenkovic who this week was the subject of completely false speculation she hid a ‘baggie’ in her dress at Sunday’s commitment ceremony.

The ‘evidence’ for the baseless claim was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment that happened when the camera panned to Rhi as she was seated in front of the experts next to her ‘husband’ Jeff Gobbels.

MAFS bride Rhi Disljenkovic (right, with ‘husband’ Jeff Gobbels) was the subject of completely false speculation she hid a ‘baggie’ in her dress at Sunday’s commitment ceremony

An item was visible under the V-neckline of her light blue dress.

Several uninformed fans watching at home grabbed their phones and clumsily filmed their TV screens, convinced the item was a small plastic bag…

…the type used to store cocaine or ketamine.

The videos spread like wildfire on TikTok and Instagram, and the false rumour was allowed to fester as Nine and the production company EndemolShine Australia did not put out a statement correcting the record.

Over on the ‘MAFS 2025 Unfiltered’ Facebook page, fans in their hundreds joked about Rhi’s ‘secret stash’ and tried to enlarge the screenshot to get a clearer view.

‘Its full to the brim,’ one troll commented. Another joked: ‘Her shout.’

So what was the item under Disljenkovic’s dress? Well, it certainly wasn’t drugs, nor was it a dress tag as some viewers had speculated.

We contacted Disljenkovic, 34, about the footage and she clarified it was in fact part of her audio equipment and had been fitted by a sound producer.

The microphone and tape was wrongfully mistaken for the clip seal on a small plastic bag

‘It’s a microphone and tape. As if it was a bag! It’s definitely a mic taped inside,’ she said.

Turning the tables on the ‘sleuths’ who thought they had her bang to rights, Disljenkovic pointed out it would be impossible to store contraband in a dress’ neckline because ‘the mic guys check inside your top constantly’.

‘It would be a silly place to put it if it was [drugs],’ she added.

Disljenkovic’s journey on MAFS got off to an unexpected start when she walked down the aisle to discover she not only knew her ‘husband’ Gobbels, but had previously dated him for a month.

Both the bride and the groom were shocked by the turn of events, especially since they’d signed up to marry a stranger.

‘I walked down the aisle and Jeff turned around and I was like… what the hell? I know him,’ Disljenkovic said in an interview.

‘We dated for like a month last year. Luckily, we ended on really good terms, as we’d both come out of long-term relationships.

Despite this, the pair took the experiment in their stride and used the experts and the challenges to create a strong foundation, making them one of the strongest couples.

Since then, the pair has made no secret of the fact they are still together following their time on the hit reality show, which wrapped filming in November 2024.

The couple has been spotted together on several occasions including Gobbels’ 40th birthday party in Melbourne.

While most viewers were just having fun with the ‘baggie’ speculation, not everyone saw the funny side.

One viewer snapped: ‘It’s a microphone thingy. Grow up.’

Another fan said the baseless speculation had prompted them to give up MAFS sleuthing altogether.

‘Time for me to leave this petty, picky, judgmental, insensitive group. I cannot believe how many people can be so rude. Try to be better people. Time to show some maturity,’ they wrote.
