Trump sets his sights on new reporter to target… as he unveils brutal nickname

The president has a new reporter in his crosshairs – and in true Trump fashion, he has already christened the correspondent with a nickname.

Christened ‘Liddle” Peter Baker by Trump Sunday, the reporter is chief White House correspondent for the New York Times.

President Trump unveiled his latest foe in a post on Truth Social, where he took shots at fellow NYT correspondent Maggie Haberman as well.

Also singled out was the New Yorker’s Susan Glasser, who happens to be Baker’s wife, as well as the founding editor of Politico. The latter is one of six publications the government has cut all ties with when it comes to subscriptions, as is the Times.

‘The Failing New York Times insists on using Liddle’ Peter Baker, a really bad writer and Obama biographer and sycophant, to write many of the long and boring Fake News hit pieces against me,’ Trump wrote, using a certain spelling for the adjective.

‘The only two people with less talent than Peter are his “wife,” the lovely Susan Glasser, and, of course, Maggot Hagerman, who may be the least talented writer in the entire stable of New York Times’ MEDIOCRITY!’ he went on, using another nickname.

‘There’s something really wrong with these people, and their SICK, TRUMP DERANGED EDITORS.

‘They did everything within their power to help rig the Election against me,’ he continued, with the Times one of several holdouts still critical of Trump amid probes into NPR and PBS and his complaints about ABC, NBC, and CBS’s election coverage.

‘How did that work out??? MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!’ he concluded.

Also a political analyst for MSNBC, Baker earned his stripes as a reporter for the Washington Post, working there for more than 20 years.

He joined the Times in 2008, where he offered detailed, kind coverage on Barack Obama’s presidency.

In December 2016, the 57-year-old was named White House chief ahead of Trump’s first term.

Coverage from Baker – when it comes to the Republican party – has become increasingly critical since. In February, he compared the early days of Trump’s second term to the early days of Vladimir Putin’s reign, which he covered in Moscow.

And that has now prompted Trump to weigh in.

The New York Times defended its reported on X Monday, saying: ‘Presidents from both parties have found reason to be unhappy with honest, independent journalism.

‘Peter Baker, Maggie Haberman and their colleagues have an unrivaled record of covering this and prior administrations fully and fairly.

‘Intimidation tactics against Times reporters or their family members have never caused us to back down from our mission of holding powerful people to account, regardless of which party is in office.’

Days before Trump’s Truth Social attack, he fumed that Haberman “owes” him her Pulitzer Prize following her recent reporting on DOGE boss Elon Musk.

The jab came in response to a report from Haberman that Musk would be briefed Friday on potential U.S. military plans in the event of a conflict with China – a move that would grant him access to some of the US’s most sensitive secrets.

He called Haberman - who has written her own books in critique of the conservative -'Maggot Hagerman,' and 'the least talented writer in the entire [Times] stable'

Baker recently penned similar stories and took to X to question some of Trump’s other strategies.

‘Trump and his allies used to argue that it was un-American for colleges to punish free speech. But now that they are in charge, they are cracking down on political expression on campus they dislike,’ he tweeted Saturday, in one of many critiques.

‘Trump and his allies have long said they were targeting immigrants in the country illegally. But in fact they are also targeting legal immigrants, tourists and academics on the basis of their speech and opinions,’ he wrote the day before.

A couple days before that, the unassuming journalist spoke about the Trump administration’s decision to terminate a US-funded initiative that documents alleged Russian war crimes.

Baker, in turn, tweeted how this could include a sensitive database detailing the mass deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.

As for the apparent insult, Trump has used “Liddle” (with the apostrophe) on Twitter to slam dissidents before, first doing so with “Liddle’ Bob Corker,” a former Republican Senator, in 2017.

Corker was also short in stature, standing at around 5-foot-seven.

He then reused the nickname for Democrat Adam Schiff from 2018 onward. Both men have been critical of Trump.

The spelling – and punctuation – in both cases seemed purposeful, with Trump slamming CNN for questioning the spelling at the time.

‘To show you how dishonest the LameStream Media is, I used the word Liddle’, not Liddle, in discribing Corrupt Congressman Liddle’ Adam Schiff. Low ratings @CNN purposely took the hyphen out and said I spelled the word little wrong,’ Trump complained, misspelling ‘describing’ while referring to an apostrophe as a hyphen.

He used the word ‘little’ to mock current secretary of state Marco Rubio, when the two were running against each other in 2015.

All the men described stood somewhere around 5’9″ or below. Trump is said to be 6-foot-3.
