Trump reacts after Republican congresswoman, 37, makes shock pregnancy announcement at White House

Republican Rep. Kat Cammack surprised her fellow GOP lawmakers – and President Donald Trump – by announcing she was pregnant at Wednesday’s White House Women’s History Month event.

The 37-year-old Florida Republican revealed she was having a baby girl and is due in August as she gathered onstage with other female GOP lawmakers in the East Room.

One GOP lawmaker noted that Cammack had ‘a long way to go’ to catch up to the Illinois GOP Rep. Mary Miller, who has seven children.

Trump congratulated Cammack as he introduced female Republican lawmakers at the afternoon event.

‘And Representative Kat Cammack, who just announced a new baby girl. That’s great,’ the president said.

Cammack also addressed House Speaker Mike Johnson, who was in the crowd.

‘Mr. Speaker, don’t worry. Margins are fine. I’m due in August,’ Cammack said.

House Republicans only have a five-seat majority at the moment.

The baby announcement came ahead of Trump’s speech, in which he bragged about his own voting record with women, boasted about accomplishments he said were made on behalf of America’s women and commended the women working in his administration.

‘And thank you for the vote, you were very nice to me,’ Trump said as he arrived to an audience that was predominantly female. ‘We set every record. We loved it. We loved that vote.’

Trump lost female voters by about 8 points to Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 race, exit polling showed.

Among white women, however, he won a majority – receiving about 53 percent of that group’s vote.

In his remarks, Trump argued that he was defending American women with executive orders targeting transgender Americans.

The president signed an executive order barring transgender women from playing in women’s sports and another that proclaimed there are only two biological sexes.

‘On day one, I made the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female,’ Trump said. ‘Is there anybody, seriously, is there anybody that disagrees with that in this room?’

‘I thought maybe somebody from the press might raise their hand,’ he scoffed.

He then mocked the Democrats, saying ‘they’re fighting for a 2 percent issue.’

‘No matter how many surgeries you have or chemicals you inject, if you’re born with male DNA in every cell of your body, you can never become a woman. You’re not going to be a woman,’ Trump said.

He also used the speech to call attention to a number of female members of his administration, starting with his Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, the first female White House chief of staff in U.S. history.

‘And she was just named by one of the very prominent media groups, I don’t mention because I cannot stand the people, but she has just been named as, and it’s true, the most powerful woman in the world,’ Trump said.

He also applauded White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, 27, who came under siege at Wednesday’s briefing over The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief being added to a White House Signal group chat so war planning against the Houthis could be made.

‘Also, we’re going to go to somebody that’s really the rage right now. She’s the youngest ever White House press secretary,’ Trump said. ‘Karoline, look at you. … you’re not too young, and she’s knocking them dead.’

He said that Alina Habba was ‘like a rocket ship,’ as his counselor to the president departs D.C. to become the U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey.

At the event, President Donald Trump applauded female members of his own administration, including Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, press secretary Karoline Leavitt, female Cabinet members and female Republican members of Congress

He also noted how he had ‘more women in our Cabinet than any Republican president in the history of our country.’

‘Remember they were saying he doesn’t like strong women? That may be true but if that’s true I’m in deep trouble, because I’m surrounded, I got the strongest women,’ the president went on.

He praised Cabinet members including Attorney General Pam Bondi, Education Secretary Linda McMahon and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.

And he also applauded the creation of the new Republican Woman’s Caucus.
