Trump offers illegal migrants money and airplane ticket to self-deport to fix border crisis

Donald Trump wants to give money and an airplane ticket to any illegal migrant who chooses to ‘self-deport’ to help solve the border crisis and then work to get those who are ‘good’ back in the US.

Trump, who campaigned on a pledge to carry out mass deportations, said in a taped interview with Fox Noticias that aired Tuesday that his administration is focused right now on getting ‘murderers’ out of the country.

But for others in the US illegally, he said, he´s going to implement ‘a self-deportation program.’

Trump offered few details about the plan, including timing, but said the US would provide immigrants airfare and a stipend.

‘We´re going to give them a stipend. We´re going to give them some money and a plane ticket, and then we´re going to work with them – if they´re good – if we want them back in, we´re going to work with them to get them back in as quickly as we can,’ Trump said.

Fox Noticias interviewer Rachel Campos-Duffy, who is married to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, played Trump a clip of a Mexican man who she said arrived in the US illegally more than 20 years ago and has children who are American citizens.

It is not clear if the man now has legal permission to be in the country, but Campos-Duffy said the man said that even though he cannot vote, he would have supported Trump.

She played a clip of the man saying he agrees that if someone commits a crime, they should be returned to their countries – including himself.

‘I look at this man. I say, this is a guy that we want to keep,’ Trump replied. ‘I´ll probably take heat for saying it.’

He then asked if the man was supposed to be deported and answered his own question: ‘No, he didn´t say that. Good.’

‘I don´t think he´s in any danger of it,’ Trump said.

The Republican president also said wants to help hotels and farms get the workers they need and recommend people to fill needed positions.

He said that would be ‘very soothing’ to farmers and said he ultimately wants workers who are in the US illegally to leave and come back with legal permission, but he did not outline any steps to do that.

‘We´re doing a self-deportation and we´re going to make it comfortable for people,’ he said. ‘And we´re going to work with those people to come back into our country legally.’

Fox Noticias said the interview with Trump was taped Monday.

The news comes as the White House battles back against liberal fury over migrants being deported to prisons in El Salvador.

Karoline Leavitt tore into Democrat lawmakers and the media for their coverage of a Salvadorian migrant who was deported back to El Salvador.

‘Based on the sensationalism of many of the people in this room, you would think we deported a candidate for Father of the Year,’ Leavitt, 27, told reporters.

The White House Press Secretary was critiquing the press for their coverage of a migrant the administration accidentally deported named Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

The 29-year-old migrant has an American son and wife but he was sent back to El Salvador by mistake.

He was alleged to have ties to MS-13, but the Trump administration is now saying they cannot bring him back, and Abrego Garcia is not subject to US jurisdiction.

He has commonly been referred to as a ‘Maryland man’ in the coverage about his removal to El Salvador’s most notorious prison CECOT.

‘It’s atrocious that you have Democrats in Congress on Capitol Hill who swear an oath to protect their constituents and to serve them in Washington DC, spending more time defending illegal immigrant gang members than their own constituents and law abiding American citizens like Rachel Morin,’ the press secretary said.

Morin, a Maryland mother-of-five, was murdered by an illegal migrant in 2023. Her mother, Patty Morin, spoke during Trump’s campaign about the tragic loss of her daughter.

‘The Democrat and media outrage over the deportation of Abrego Garcia, an MS-13, El Salvadorian, illegal alien, criminal who is hiding in Maryland, has been nothing short of despicable,’ Leavitt blasted.

‘That’s because ultimately, many in this country care more about this quote, unquote, Maryland father, illegal alien, MS-13 gang member, than a Maryland mother and an American citizen who was brutally murdered at the hands of a different illegal alien.’

On Monday, a Maryland court found Morin’s killer, Salvadorian Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, guilty of rape and murder.

It was found that Martinez-Hernandez planned the murder ahead of time before strangling Morin and leaving her body in a ditch.

DNA testing was able to match the migrant to the scene.

‘President Trump and our administration will not rest until every single highly illegal alien is removed from our country,’ the press secretary continued.

Abrego Garcia, on the other hand, fled to come to the US in 2011 and was granted status to stay in 2019.

However, he was deported as a result of an ‘administrative error’ on March 15.

He has been at the high security CECOT prison in El Salvador ever since while his wife and attorney have been calling for his release.

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele visited the White House on Monday and during an Oval Office meeting with Trump announced that he would not return Abrego Garcia to the US.

His commitment bolsters the Trump administration claim that El Salvador has sole jurisdiction over Abrego Garcia.
