Traveler kicked off Delta flight because she has food allergies

A traveler has claimed she was kicked off a Delta flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Boston, Massachusetts after she informed airline officials she has a food allergy.

TikToker Ellie Brellis told her followers between tears how she had tickets for a flight back to her hometown on Sunday so she could see a doctor the following morning ’cause I’m having really, really serious allergies right now.’

She said she recently experienced an allergic reaction, which she described as a ‘mild anaphylactic shock compared to other ones I’ve had,’ and tried to explain the situation to a flight official.

‘I did all the things I was supposed to to advocate for myself so I could have a safe flight,’ Brellis said in the video from the gate, which had been viewed more than 79,000 times as of Tuesday evening.

But she said she felt dismissed by an airline worker when she tired to disclose the information about her allergy, and was ultimately kicked off the plane – even though her bags were still traveling.

Brellis even panned the camera over to show a plane taking off at the airport, claiming she was supposed to be on the flight.

‘Somehow I just got kicked off the plane for having an allergy,’ Brellis said, noting that food allergies are considered a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

‘I don’t want to be this person, I don’t want to be crying, I just want to be on my flight home so I could see my doctor and figure our why this is happening,’ she said, before questioning whether she was the one to blame for the ordeal.

‘Am I the a**hole?’ the TikToker asked. ‘Is this my fault? Should I not have said I have an allergy?’ 

‘I don’t know how I’m supposed to be safe,’ Brellis said.

In a follow-up video, Brellis said staff rebooked her on a redeye flight, but she would have to get a doctor’s clearance before she could travel

In a follow-up video, Brellis said she was actually onboard the plane when crew members ‘escorted me off.’

She said she had since been told she was booked onto a redeye flight, ‘but it’s a full flight so they gave me an aisle seat, but they can’t guarantee any safety or anything.’

Brellis also claimed Delta officials told her they would have to call Medair, and have her talk to a doctor who would determine if she was ‘fit to fly.

‘What the f***?’ the teary-eyed traveler said. ‘I’ve flown my whole life, I’ve always been fit to fly until I flew to LA and had an allergic reaction, and they did not help me the way I was supposed to get help.

‘I don’t get it,’ she said.

But some online seemed to have sided with the airline.

‘I am sorry you’re going through this,’ one person commented on her original video. ‘They feared you could have anaphylaxis on the plane. 

‘If there was any exposure, they wouldn’t accept that responsibility.’

Another user said she has airborne nut allergies and ‘with Delta, I am required to call in advance of my flight to put it on my account every time, ask [a] gate agent for pre-boarding and tell the [flight attendants].’

In fact, Delta’s website recommends passengers with allergies fill out a form or call the Accessibility Services team before the flight to notify them.

‘While we are unable to guarantee a peanut-free or allergen-free flight or prohibit other customers from carrying these products on board, we strive to make reasonable accommodations for your needs,’ it says.
