Erling Haaland signs astonishing new 9.5 year contract at Man City

The striker, whose previous deal was set to expire in 2027, has put pen to paper on a seven-year extension in what is almost certainly the most lucrative contract City have given any player.

And the Norwegian, who has scored 111 goals in 125 games since his 2022 arrival from Borussia Dortmund, said he was delighted to agree to spend almost all of the rest of his career at City.

“I am super happy,” he said. “I am proud. It is difficult to put into words because it is a big moment. I am happy and that is the right words to use. I am super proud and happy and I am looking forward to staying here for a long time. In the end, speaking with the people I spoke with, the hunger and the support that I have been getting for the last couple of years from the board, from the bosses and from Pep [Guardiola], it was an easy decision. I am delighted.”

Man Utd determined to hold off Arsenal competition for Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are hopeful of holding off competition for Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres to secure a deal in the summer, Miguel Delaney writes for the Independent.

Arsenal are understood to have raised the striker in discussions over a badly-needed forward signing for January, having brought forward plans from the summer after the ACL injury suffered by Gabriel Jesus.

Mikel Arteta this week admitted they are looking, and Gyokeres has been raised along with options such as Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson. Arsenal have not seriously pursued PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani yet this window. The French striker is set to move to Juventus, which could see Dusan Vlahovic leave the Italian club, although Arteta’s interest in the striker is currently not as strong as was reported three years ago.

City to make another defensive signing?

Yesterday, Gianluca Di Marzio broke news that Man City are preparing an offer between €60-65m for Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso.

The 24-year-old can play as a full-back or wing-back, and has become a regular starter both both Juventus and Italy.

However, Sky Italy “believe Juventus currently value Cambiaso at around £67m and are not looking to sell him this month”.

Cambiaso has four-and-a-half years left on his Juve contract.
