Train traveler sparks fierce debate after kicking pregnant woman out of reserved seat

A train traveler has sparked fierce debate after kicking a pregnant woman out of her reserved seat.

Taking to Reddit to share her story, the unnamed woman explained she had a five-hour train trip and had booked her seat in advance so she could sit down for the duration of the journey due to medical reasons.

However, once she boarded the train, she found that there was a pregnant woman in her seat.

‘I politely inform her that I think that’s my seat, show her my ticket and ask her to move,’ she explained in the Am I The A**hole subreddit.

The woman checked her ticket and acknowledged she must have sat in the wrong seat, but proceeded to put her head down on the table in front of her and ignored the fellow passenger.

‘I say that it’s my seat and could I please sit in it,’ she recalled.

‘At this point her partner sitting opposite her starts speaking at me in what I perceive to be an aggressive tone,’ she continued. ‘He suggests I find another seat.’

The irate passenger explained there were not anymore seats as the train was busy, which angered the man.

‘He then raises his voice and says well someone else is in our seats and that his missus is pregnant,’ she recounts.

‘I say I understand and that I have a heart defect (which I do) and said everyone has their own medical issues and reasons standing for long periods of time might be difficult,’ the woman explained.

She then asked the man not to talk to her in an aggressive tone, and threatened to make a complaint if he continued.

‘He then starts swearing at me and I ask him to stop,’ she shared.

‘Eventually the woman gets up and allows me to sit there and he continues to berate me saying he hopes I feel good for myself and that I’m quiet now I have my seat,’ the distressed passenger recounted, adding she stopped engaging after that.

One of the other passengers sitting opposite her eventually gave up his seat so the pregnant woman could sit there, which didn’t stop the man from berating the woman.

‘At which point he sits his partner down and then laughs at me and points in my face,’ she explained.

After awhile, the ticket inspector came around and told them both to move to their assigned seats, also asking the woman if she is okay as another passenger had made a complaint on her behalf.

‘Even so was I the a**hole?’ the concerned woman asked.

‘Should I have just left them alone as she was pregnant? And did I in any way escalate the situation?’

Users were decidedly on the side of the woman who posted, pointing out she planned ahead and booked a seat so she wouldn’t be left in the position the couple were in.

‘[Not the a**hole],’ one user declared.

They continued: ‘There’s no reason why the husband, as the healthy one, should have stayed in his seat. It’s ridiculous that after hearing that you have a heart defect he didn’t get out of his seat and give it to his wife, allowing you to take yours. Even if they couldn’t sit in their seats there was no reason for her to have yours. The husband was being a selfish a**.’

‘NTA. The self entitlement was strong with this couple and it reads as though you were as reasonable as you could be. Love the fact they were escorted to their proper seats,’ agreed someone else.

‘You mean kicking a pregnant woman out of YOUR seat. Obviously NTA, don’t let some obnoxious bullies get to you,’ chimed in a third person.

‘NTA I’m currently pregnant and I think it’s ridiculous to be so entitled just because you happen to be knocked up. Never in a million years would I have tried to pull that s**t,’ assured someone else.
