Tragedy strikes former Channel Seven presenter as she reveals her fiancé died during dream holiday in India

TV personality Kay McGrath is devastated after her fiance and ‘soulmate’ died suddenly during a trip to India.

Ms McGrath, 68, was leading a tour through India when her fiance, Richard Moore, died of a heart attack. 

‘I have some devastating news to share with you dear friends. My darling fiance and soulmate Richard has passed away after suffering a sudden and totally unexpected heart attack in Agra, India,’ she wrote on Instagram. 

‘Local doctors did all they could to save him.

‘The day before we’d shared such a special time at the Taj Mahal – designed to be ‘heaven on earth’ which gives me some comfort. 

‘I’ll always treasure that and all the wonderful memories we created together over many years.’

Ms McGrath added that Richard was ‘so loved and valued by family and friends’. 

‘He leaves a huge hole in our hearts. A kind, smart, generous, wickedly funny and genuinely good man – we all miss you so much darling.’

The pair had been engaged since 2016, and divided their time between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

Mr Moore, one year older than Ms McGrath and a semi-retired businessman, has a daughter and a young granddaughter. 

Ms McGrath was hosting a tour for Imagine Holidays Australia at the time of the tragedy.

A well-known presenter, she resigned from her newsreading role at Channel Seven in 2020 and since worked for the network’s Weekender program. 

Awarded an OAM in 2017, she is also a campaigner against child abuse and has worked to raise awareness of breast cancer.
