president "Agricultural extension" Emphasizes the importance of exchanging experiences and knowledge between African countries

 Head of the Agricultural Extension Sector, Dr. Alaa Azouz, stressed Egypt’s vital role in strengthening the partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa… stressing the importance of cooperation and exchanging experiences and knowledge between African countries, while strengthening joint cooperation to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development.

This came in a speech by the Head of the Agricultural Extension Sector during the workshop on reviewing and approving the guideline for enhancing land tenure security for women in Africa, which was hosted by Egypt in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, in the presence of representatives of 22 African countries.

 

Dr. Azouz pointed out the importance of this event, which brings together experts, decision-makers and stakeholders from various parts of the continent, as it reflected Egypt’s commitment By promoting gender equality in land rights and empowering women as an essential element in achieving sustainable agricultural development, pointing to the importance of comprehensive and fair governance in the land sector, and the role of women in promoting agricultural and community development in Africa.

 

He explained that the representation of women in the Egyptian House of Representatives has witnessed a remarkable development in recent years, as a percentage of seats were allocated to women to ensure their fair representation in Parliament, in addition to appointing a number of women in the positions of minister, governor, deputy ministers and governors, in addition to Egyptian women assuming many leadership positions in the Egyptian government, whether in ministries or various government bodies, which reflects progress towards achieving gender equality in life.  

 

In a related context, the head of the agricultural extension sector reviewed the most prominent recommendations concluded by the workshop, where the participants discussed during the plenary sessions three regional papers that dealt with the situation of women in The African continent, as well as highlighting the challenges faced by women in safely accessing land, including customary traditions, legal gaps, and gender-based power dynamics, emphasized the importance of finding innovative solutions that suit different local contexts and enhance governance.

 

Azouz added that the participants recommended the need to adopt a regional approach that addresses the dynamics of different land tenure, and to give priority to land tenure security for women as a tool to achieve broader goals that include food sovereignty and climate resilience, as well as Agree on robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to follow up on the implementation of reforms and measure their impact on women’s lives.
