Today, Saturday, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II will pray in the Church of St. Mark, the Mass for the promotion of some fathers to the rank of priest, in the Cathedral of St. Mark in Alexandria.

Pope Tawadros II had received a delegation from the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, which included His Eminence Bishop Abuna Basilios, General Director of the Church, and Father Barakat, Head of the Office of Foreign Relations and Protocol at the Holy Synod, who delivered to His Holiness a message from the Eritrean Holy Synod, to discuss the required church procedures. In order to hold elections to choose a new patriarch for Eritrea.

The delegation discussed with the Coptic delegation consisting of Their Eminences Bishop Daniel, Metropolitan of Maadi and Secretary of the Holy Synod, Bishop Angelos, General Bishop of the Churches of the Northern Shubra Sector, Bishop Bigol, Bishop and President of the Muharraq Monastery, and Bishop Dioscorus, Bishop and President of the Monastery of Saint Yahnos Al-Qusayr on the El Alamein Road.

This is within the framework of the protocol signed between the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, stipulating the necessity of either church participating in the procedures for electing a new patriarch.

It was agreed to hold elections in Eritrea on December 9th. The inauguration ceremony of the new patriarch will take place in January 2025 in the capital, Asmara.
