Usually, when folks go on Married At First Sight (MAFS), they either further their career through influencing, podcasts or OnlyFans. However, thanks to 2024 groom Timothy Smith, a new pipeline has opened up for MAFS participants: federal politics.
In a surprise twist no Channel Nine producer couldn’t conjure up, Timothy has revealed he’ll be gunning for Greens leader Adam Bandt‘s seat by running as an independent in the city of Melbourne.
“Got a bit of news to go over you with. Look, I’ve officially thrown my hat into the ring to run for Minister of Parliament for the City of Melbourne for the upcoming federal election,” the 52-year-old entrepreneur said in his announcement video.
In the same video, Timothy shared that he wanted to make this announcement following the publication of a Daily Mail article, which he claimed was “completely false from start to finish”.
“Anyway, on a positive note, you’ll see a tonne more coming from me, both from this and other platforms,” Timothy continued.
“Had to get this out there. Look, let’s make a change. The time is now I’ve got some more stuff to put out there.
“I am running for the office.”
Alongside the video, the former MAFS groom emphasised his message of change in the caption of his post, penning: “I believe that we can make a change timing has never been better to make a change so together let’s do it.”
Following his announcement, Timothy’s fellow castmates have flocked to the comments to voice their support for the beloved groom.
“Huge Step!” fellow Season 11 groom Michael Felix commented.
“On you legend! Fight for the little guys,” controversial groom Jonathan McCullough wrote.
For folks who need a quick refresher on Tim’s journey on MAFS, the amateur helicopter pilot joined the show in 2024 and was paired with fan-favourite Lucinda Light.
Tim and Lucinda’s relationship was quite hot and cold, with the pair constantly butting heads in one episode then making up again in the next. But regardless of their relationship status, viewers frothed their presence in the experiment.
One of their most memorable moments was when they took on the roles of “bullshit investigators” and sent a letter to 2024 MAFS villain Jack Dunkley, which questioned why he hadn’t boned his wife Tori Adams and the rumour Jack broke up with his ex just to be on the show.
Despite the good times, Lucinda and Tim broke up and have since drifted apart.
Look, Tim joining politics is a surprising move! But it doesn’t mean it can’t be done. After all, a former reality TV star (and convicted felon) is now running the United States for a second time.
Anything is possible in this timeline.
