Three young children were rescued from a feces-covered apartment so disgusting that investigators were forced to wear hazmat suits while searching the scene.

Oklahoma City police were alerted when neighbor Barbara North called on September 12, and reported seeing two young boys naked in an upstairs window, possibly in distress.

‘I’d go by that window and see them little boys naked in it,’ North told News 9. ‘They looked up at me as if to say “help me.”

‘They would have dookie all over their face, hands, mouths,’ she said.

The children’s stepfather reportedly told cops he had locked them in the room for 12 hours each day so their mom could get a good sleep to ‘keep them safe’.

When police later arrived on the scene, they described being overwhelmed by the smell of feces and urine inside.

‘Once the door opened, I was struck with a smell that made my stomach turn and my eyes water,’ an officer wrote in an affidavit obtained by Law & Crime.

It says Dakota Dodd, 24, the boys’ stepfather, answered the door for police at around 11.15am that day, but still appeared to have ‘redness and marks’ on his face as if he had just been roused from sleeping.

At first, Dodd allegedly said he was the only one home, before later admitting that his two sons were upstairs – and reluctantly agreeing to allow the responding officer to follow him to the boys’ room.

The officer then described what he saw.

‘On the stairs leading up to the second floor, there were piles of what appeared to be human feces. The smell of feces got stronger as you walked up the stairs,’ the cop wrote.

‘At the top of the stairs was a bedroom. The room had no furniture, aside from a child’s plastic slide and a few toys.

‘Located in the closet was a twin-size bedframe. The frame was standing on its end and did not have a mattress.’

The affidavit also noted that there were feces on every surface, including the walls, floors and windows.

And when officers opened the door to the bedroom, two boys, ages three and four, immediately came out ‘as if they had been standing at the door waiting or trying to get out,’ the affidavit says.

It notes that the boys ‘had feces caked in their fingernail beds, palms of their hands, feet, legs and faces.’

It also says the ‘feces was dried and did not appear to be “fresh.”‘

By the time crime scene investigators arrived on the scene, they had to don hazmat suits to protect themselves from the stench.

Dodd later allegedly admitted to locking the boys in the bedroom for more than 12 hours a day, so that their mother, 22-year-old Aubrianna Freeman, could get enough sleep to ‘keep the kids safe due to the neighborhood,’ News 9 reports.

The bedroom was connected to a bathroom, but the door was locked from the other side.

A third child, an 11-month-old baby girl that was Dodd’s biological child, was also found inside the home – but was kept away from the boys.

All three children were then taken to a local hospital to be checked out, and were placed in Department of Human Services care.

Meanwhile, both Dodd and Freeman were taken into custody, and were charged with five counts each of child neglect.

Their bonds were set at $250,000 each.
