This is the exact lip liner Lana Del Rey uses

It’s no secret that Lana Del Rey has one of the most perfect pouts in the music business. And now, the singer’s makeup artist is doing gods work, sharing exactly how to recreate her signature lip look.

Much like her melancholic music, Lana Del Rey’s makeup leans sultry, with a hint of whimsical, old Hollywood influence thrown in. While she’s experimented with countless beauty looks over the years — from the face jewels of her Young And Beautiful music video, to the brain-chemistry-altering smudged eyeliner from her Video Games era — her lips have remained consistent, with the singer typically opting for an ombré brown liner, and a sheer glossy finish. But, try as we might, replicating this seemingly simple combination has proven an unsolvable challenge — that is, until now. Makeup artist Etienne Ortega has officially answered our prayers, and is sharing exactly which products are behind Lana’s luscious look, and how to apply them.

Exactly how to recreate Lana Del Rey’s signature lip look

Using Lana’s look from Coachella earlier this year as a reference, Etienne took to TikTok to share a breakdown of the products behind her pout. He starts by moisturising the lips with the ‘Blue Nectar’ Lip Oil from his eponymous makeup label, before dabbing off the excess and powdering them with a translucent powder.

Next comes the star of the show: the ‘Soft Contour’ Lip Liner in the shade ‘Xola.’ But it’s Ortega’s application that really caught our attention. Coined the ‘scared heart’ technique, he starts by drawing a line down the middle of the lips, directly beneath the cupid’s bow. Then, he connects this by outlining the top lip, mimicking the shape of a love heart to create the illusion of fullness. He then underlines the middle portion of the bottom lip, slightly exaggerating this line to give a perfectly pouty effect. Finally, he connects the corners of the lips to this centre line, and shades inwards to create depth. He follows this up with a fluffy brush to diffuse the outer edges into the centre of the lips — the trick to Lana’s signature ombré effect.

To finish, Ortega applies the Agave Glow Color Stick in the shade ‘Nubes’ to the centre of the lips, again blending this out with a fluffy brush. Finally, he adds shine with the Ethereal Glow balm in the shade ‘Golden Hour’, topped off with a swipe of the Liquid Icon Hypergloss in ‘Por Vida’ for the ultimate high-gloss finish.
