They were supposed to be Australia’s Kardashians… until their brother’s life of crime forced them into the shadows. Now, 10 years after Salim’s wedding, we tracked down the glamorous Mehajer sisters – and they look unrecognisable

It’s been ten years since Salim Mehajer’s sensational ‘wedding of the century’ brought Sydney to a standstill – and thrust seven women dramatically into the limelight: his young wife and his six sisters.

The lives of the Mehajer women have never been the same since, and now, with Salim locked up in jail as a convicted fraudster, and as the anniversary of his raucous nuptials approaches, the women still suffer the fallout from his infamy.

But after his jail sentences, bankruptcies, ruined livelihoods, their own big weddings and spectacular break-ups, the Mehajer sisters – Fatima, Zenah, Sanaa, Aisha, Mary and Kat – may have at last achieved some peace and happiness.

Like Salim, most of the sisters still enjoy a cosmetically enhanced ‘Kardashian look’ common among cashed-up western Sydney housewives, but unlike him they have mostly stayed out of the headlines.

The $1.4million wedding between Salim Mehajer and Aysha April Learmonth in 2015 thrust the couple, and Salim’s six glamorous sisters, into the limelight

Salim hasn’t scored a win since he successfully shut down an entire street in Sydney’s west with a crazy marriage procession involving four helicopters, a fleet of luxury cars, a seaplane, a fighter jet and a motorcade of Harley-Davidsons.

The disgraced property developer and bankrupted one-time Auburn deputy mayor is currently in a prison cell in northwestern Sydney’s John Morony Correctional Centre, where he will stay until at least mid-2025.

The name Salim Mehajer only made news this past week because his old mansion – scene of the $1.4million wedding in 2015 and, later, music videos by rappers Tyga and Bow Wow filmed on the home’s marble staircase – was allegedly firebombed.

Mehajer’s outlandish antics, including committing electoral fraud and staging a car crash, along with acts of domestic violence, have kept sending him back to jail for years.

While his six sisters and ex-wife were dragged along through Salim’s ups and downs, they are managing to distance themselves from his notoriety.

Daily Mail Australia exclusively revealed late last year what had happened to Salim’s young bride Aysha Amelia Mehajer in the years since she met him, married him, and swiftly fled his chaos.

Now we uncover what has happened to the other women in his family…

KAT SAKALAKI a.k.a. KHADIJEH MEHAJER

Two kids, a luxury life and keeping the romance alive

Not the oldest of Salim’s sisters, but arguably the ‘boss’ or Kim Kardashian of the siblings, Kat Sakalaki has carved out a comfortable life for herself.

When Khadijeh, or ‘Kat’, took a leaf out of her brother’s playbook in 2016 and held a mega-wedding of her own, rumoured to have cost upwards of $1million, it seems she married the right person.

The video of Kat’s lavish nuptials at Doltone House to IT engineer Ibrahim Sakalaki is still linked on his private Instagram page, below his status of ‘husband to @katsakalaki’ with a ring and heart emoji and the words ‘Daddy to Abraham & Summer’.

Kat and Ibrahim, who live in a $2million house with a pool in western Sydney, had a son, now aged seven, the year after they married, then a daughter, born in 2021, now aged four.

Kat’s invitation and bonbonniere business, Kat’s Korner, does not seem to have thrived, but the Sakalakis nonetheless live an opulent lifestyle.

She previously made headlines when pictures first emerged of her dramatic physical transformation, and she has maintained the look over the years.

Last week, on the eve of her birthday, Mrs Sakalaki emerged from her stylish five-bedroom home with her hair up in curlers to receive an Ikea flatpack delivery and clear out her white Tesla before taking friends to lunch.

At about midday, Kat came out in a Miu Miu shirt and jeans with her daughter dressed up in pink with her hair in a bow.

They drove off to pick up two women then went for lunch at the Italian Bowl in Newtown, in Sydney’s inner west.

At the weekend, to celebrate Kat’s 33rd, she and her husband went to the Intercontinental Hotel in exclusive Double Bay and had a romantic dinner together.

The couple and their children holidayed at the Luna Beach Club in Bali before last Christmas and regularly enjoy overseas vacations.

With more than 30,000 Instagram followers, Ms Sakalaki regularly posts about her idyllic life and her growing tribe of nieces and nephews as her sisters have more children.

As for her role within the close-knit family, Kat is said to be the glue that keeps the Mehajer girls together, and describes her sisters as ‘built-in best friends’.

MARY MEHAJER

Glamorous fashion influencer

Mehajer’s younger sister Mary burst into the spotlight as a teenager when she controversially won a beauty contest, Miss Lebanon Australia, in 2016.

Then aged 18, Mary dismissed claims from other contestants that the contest had been ‘rigged’ and judges swayed by her brother Salim’s sponsorship of the event.

This was despite the fact she was able to enter only three weeks before the pageant.

Mary later said she was proud of her win and challenged her critics, saying, ‘I would love for [New South Wales Fair Trading] to investigate and see that I won fairly.’

Nowadays, 26-year-old Mary is a burgeoning Instagram fashion influencer, with nearly 15,000 followers, and appears to maintain a glamorous lifestyle.

She regularly posts photos in stylish dresses and heavy makeup, and pumps out promotional brand content to her followers.

Mary remains close with her older sister Sanaa, who is just two years her senior, and attended the opening of her charity, Girls on a Mission.

SANAA MEHAJER

Briefly married to a convicted killer, had a baby and got a legal degree

Sanaa, the second youngest of Salim’s sisters, long flew under the radar as her older siblings made headlines.

But towards the end of 2017, she emerged from the family shadows, with Daily Mail Australia revealing she had suddenly tied the knot with Moudi Tajjour.

Tajjour, who is John Ibrahim’s cousin, is the former president of the Nomads outlaw motorcycle gang. He was once jailed for manslaughter.

Their marriage was short-lived and ended with police bringing an AVO out against Tajjour on her behalf.

Sanaa, 29, previously said she knew the relationship was over during their honeymoon when Tajjour allegedly called her names.

She said she knew about his violent past but insisted she did not see bad behaviour from him before they wed.

Sanaa announced a charity called Girls on a Mission (GOAM), to help victims of domestic violence, in 2017, and travelled to Lebanon to campaign for disadvantaged women and girls affected by poverty.

The charity’s registration as a public benevolent institution (PBI) in Australia has since ended.

However, Sanaa reinvented herself again, and went to university for three years to study for her Juris Doctor, a graduate degree which entitles her to practise as a lawyer.

Long considered the sister with the biggest social conscience – she campaigned against the 2015 executions of Bali Nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran – Sanaa graduated in 2023.

She did so while heavily pregnant with her baby daughter. After her graduation ceremony, her sister Kat posing alongside Sanaa in a mortarboard and wrote on Instagram: ‘She did it with a baby on board! Proud of my beautiful sis.’

In 2018, Sanaa revealed that her sisters, Salim and their other brother, Khaled, were ‘all super close, but we live separate lives now’, adding that the Mehajer girls regularly made time for each other.

‘I don’t like to comment on my siblings but we’re each other’s number one fans, we’re always the first to be there for each other and we catch up every week.’

ZENAH OSMAN

More legal aggravation

Arguably the most low profile of the Mehajer women is Zenah Osman, a former solicitor.

The only one of Salim’s six sisters to wear the traditional Muslim headwear, the hijab, Zenah lives in Merrylands in western Sydney with husband Khaled and their four children in a massive six-bedroom home.

In 2018, Ms Osman was struck off the New South Wales roll of lawyers for trying to mislead the Federal Court.

Ms Osman had told the court she worked for a number of creditors for her brother’s collapsed development company.

The NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal found Ms Osman ‘knew or ought to have known’ her claim about acting for the creditors ‘was false’.

In documents published online, the tribunal said there was ‘no evidence’ she had demonstrated any remorse over the incident.

‘It is trite to say that a legal practitioner misleading a court in which she or he appears must be amongst the most egregious misconduct that a legal professional can commit,’ the three-member tribunal ruled.

Ms Osman was struck off the lawyer’s roll and ordered to pay the New South Wales Law Society’s costs.

In 2023, Zenah was in the news again when her brother Salim denied forging the signatures of his former high-profile lawyer and his sister after a stack of cash was found in his home.

Police alleged he falsely signed the name of solicitor Zali Burrows in order to witness his own signature in a document submitted to the Federal Court.

Ms Burrows denied in court it was her signature on the documents.

Zenah Osman also took the witness stand where she was questioned about a statutory declaration Mehajer claimed was written and signed by her and witnessed by Ms Burrows.

The document sought to have the $6,530 in cash, which was seized during raids at Mehajer’s Kirribilli home, returned.

When Ms Osman was asked whether she knew about the documents, she told the court she had only been made aware by the detective ‘two weeks ago’.

She also repeatedly denied having signed the document.

In July 2023, Mehajer was found guilty of four fraud offences after forging the signatures of his ex-lawyer and sister.

FATIMA ELKHEIR née MEHAJER

Suspended jail sentence for electoral fraud

Mehajer’s sister Fatima Elkheir made headlines in 2016 when the Australian Federal Police accused her of involvement in a dodgy election plan with her brother.

Prosecutors allege Salim and Fatima submitted 77 online applications to enrol or update voter details with false information, in the lead-up to the 2012 Auburn council election.

Elkheir, now 34, pleaded guilty to 77 charges against her and narrowly escaped time behind bars for her involvement.

She was given a two-month suspended prison sentence and put on a $500 nine-month good behaviour bond for electoral fraud.

A magistrate said text messages between Elkheir and Mehajer showed she had been reluctant to get involved in the fraud.

Like her brother, Elkheir has shown a taste for big-budget celebrations.

In 2016, she splashed $10,000 on her daughter’s princess-themed first birthday party. Photos from the lavish event showed the family posing happily together.

AISHA SAYOUR

Married to an Ibrahim, now has four children

When Aisha Mehajer (sometimes spelled ‘Aiisha’) got married in 2017, it was seen as the merging of two of Sydney’s most notorious Lebanese-Australian families.

The Mehajers had been made famous by the antics of Salim. The Ibrahims were household names, from Kings Cross nightclub identity John Ibrahim, to his brother Sam, a convicted criminal.

Aisha married Hassan Sam Sayour, John Ibrahim’s nephew and the son of Maha Sayour, aka Jazz Dior, who was jailed in 2017 for unlawfully supplying firearms.

The night before their wedding at the Mehajer family house in Merrylands – where Sam + Aisha 18.11.17 was inscribed on the footpath – there was a drive-by shooting of Ibrahim bodyguard Semi ‘Tongan Sam’ Ngata.

The extravagant wedding proceeded nevertheless after police searched the house and surrounding streets.

Like Kat, Aisha has also gone under a drastic physical transformation over the past decade.

Soon after the wedding, it was revealed that the bloodline merger of the two Sydney families had borne fruit, and the couple’s first son was born in late 2018.

They now have two sons and two daughters, and Sam Sayour has become a passionate breeder of American bulldogs in Sydney’s northwestern suburbs.

Sayour regularly posts on his Federal Bullies site on Instagram, mostly enthusing about his prized dogs, or ranting about the industry.

Aisha has gone private on social media, but her husband sometimes proudly posts images and videos of their four young children.
