The Tourism Syndicate rejects arbitrary dismissal when the management of an establishment is transferred to another
The General Union of Workers in the Tourism and Hotel Sector continues its efforts with the concerned labor parties to resolve the crisis of employees at the Conrad Cairo Hotel who are subject to arbitrary dismissal due to the transfer of management of the hotel, affiliated with the International Tourist Investment Company, to Accor, as of January 1, 2025

Noting that the procedures for transferring the Conrad Hotel, which is a national company, the national banks own 80% of the shares, which made the management of the hotel under the supervision of the Assistant Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt in his capacity. He said, “We were surprised by an agreement between the two international companies.” He refers to the dismissal of 89 permanent workers and all workers with fixed-term contracts. He said that this measure violates the labor law, the Egyptian constitution, and agreements. The International Labor Party, which was ratified by Egypt, pointed out that the Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gibran, directed the holding of a meeting of the Ministry’s Collective Dispute Resolution Committee, which was attended by representatives of the two international management companies and the General Syndicate for Tourism and Hotels, where it was emphasized to respect the decisions of the Egyptian Court of Cassation, which indicate when ownership of an establishment is transferred from one employer to another. Any other action, regardless of its type, does not affect the employment contract, and the contract remains in force with the force of law between the worker and the new employer, as if it had been concluded with him from the beginning, and he goes to him and is responsible for implementing all Obligations arising from it.
