The National Council for Human Rights participates in the meetings of the Baku Declaration on Human Rights

The National Council for Human Rights participated in the meeting of Ombudsman institutions in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan, on climate change and human rights.

The Council was represented during the discussion sessions by Mahmoud Bassiouni, a member of the Council. And Chairman of the Complaints Committee, within the framework of preparations for the COP29 climate summit, hosted by Azerbaijan.

The participants agreed on the importance of linking human rights and climate change; As a factor affecting human life, climate changes have become a threat to the system of human rights and human political needs. 

The participants called for deepening the concepts of the danger of continuing climate changes to humanity through cooperation between governments, national human rights institutions and community organizations. Civil Affairs, and holding more conferences, seminars and training courses, and exchanging experiences and positive stories about the best effective ways to confront climate change.

Mahmoud Bassiouni, a member of the Council, indicates that the Council’s participation in the work of the Ombudsman meeting, It comes within the framework of the Council’s keenness to actively participate in the development of international human rights protection mechanisms, most notably the issue of climate change, which comes among the Council’s work priorities, as it established a specialized unit in sustainable development following the COP 27 climate summit. , which was hosted by Egypt, and to confront climate change, and he implemented a number of activities in order to warn of the progress of climate change and the importance of effective confrontation, with the challenges and negative effects it imposes that threaten human life.
