The most romantic hotel in the world is in Australia – and the heavenly retreat comes with cosy cabins, croissants, and breathtaking views

A Queensland retreat crowned the ‘most romantic hotel in the world’ by TripAdvisor has captivated couples with its secluded rainforest villas.

But it’s not all picture-perfect relaxation – there’s an intriguing story behind the property that makes it even more fascinating.

Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat, nestled in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, is a five-star haven that promises the ultimate escape for loved-up pairs.

The original six villas have everything you’d want for a romantic getaway in the heart of the rainforest – think cosy fireplaces, spa baths built for couples, and hammocks on the balcony where you might spot a curious kookaburra or two.

But it’s the two newly built cabins that are making waves.

The luxury additions come with private heated plunge pools on the balcony, perfect for a secluded dip while soaking in the lush surroundings.

Guests are raving about Narrows Escape for its tranquil atmosphere and stunning wildlife encounters.

One visitor described it as ‘serene and peaceful, surrounded by nature – the perfect place to relax and unwind while feeding beautiful birdlife’.

Others were thrilled by the fresh croissants delivered each morning, calling it a ‘lovely touch from the wonderful hosts’.

Wildlife sightings seem to be a highlight for many: ‘We were lucky to have a King Parrot fly onto our balcony during breakfast,’ one guest shared.

The attention to detail and comfort also doesn’t go unnoticed.

‘The beds are super comfy, and the breakfast hamper was full of fresh fruit, bread, eggs, bacon, and yogurts,’ a guest noted.

Another said, ‘The plunge pool was the perfect temperature, and the cabin just envelops you – it’s cosy, lush, and gorgeous.’

But beneath the luxurious facade of private pools, crackling fireplaces, and spa baths designed for two lies a tale of relentless ambition and a love affair that spans continents.

The owners behind the dreamy property, Ali and Xochi, have a love story as magical as their hidden rainforest retreat.

Ali’s journey into the hospitality world started at just seven years old, working in a hotel and quickly falling in love with the industry.

His career took him across the globe, from Australia to Finland, where he saved enough to achieve his dream of building a hotel.

His first project, Hotel Helsinki House, became a hit, twice earning TripAdvisor’s prestigious ‘Travellers’ Choice Award’ for best boutique hotels – and then he his sights on Narrows Escape in Queensland.

Xochi, meanwhile, is the perfect complement to Ali’s boundless energy.

Raised in Queensland but with deep roots in Sweden, her love of nature and adventure shaped her outlook on life.

Her path crossed with Ali’s in the golden deserts of Jaisalmer, India, where a chance meeting turned into a whirlwind romance fuelled by shared dreams of creating beautiful spaces.

The pair’s love story now unfolds at Narrows Escape, where they’ve traded desert dunes for lush rainforest.

From designing spaces to welcoming guests, they’re on a journey to make Narrows Escape one of the most unforgettable stays in Australia.

Their message to guests is simple: ‘This is just the beginning – we hope you’ll join us on this journey and come back year after year.’

Together, they’ve crafted a retreat that’s become a go-to for anniversaries, honeymoons, and even babymoons, with couples willing to pay a premium for an escape from everyday life.
