The Ministry of Health and Population confirms intensifying efforts to improve health services for people with disabilities
The Ministry of Health and Population affirmed its commitment to promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and improving the quality of health services provided to them, in a manner that reflects the directives of the political leadership to achieve health justice.
This came during the awareness meeting organized in cooperation between the National Council for Persons with Disabilities And the Ministries of Health and Population, Higher Education and Scientific Research, to enhance the awareness of medical personnel and improve the quality of health services provided to people with disabilities in Cairo and Giza governorates.
The meeting witnessed broad participation from government and university hospital officials, and focused on supporting the rights of people with disabilities. And enhancing the role of medical personnel in providing comprehensive health services.
During her speech on behalf of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Abla Alfi praised the importance of meetings that bring together an elite group of medical personnel from various specialties, Emphasizing that it reflects the state’s commitment to providing fair and comprehensive health care for all segments of society.
Alfi added that persons with disabilities represent an integral part of society, and that their access to health services commensurate with their needs is an inherent right that requires concerted efforts to overcome the obstacles that face them. confront them and provide the necessary support to them and their families.
She stressed the importance of prevention to reduce disabilities, by increasing the awareness of those about to get married about the importance of medical examinations and family counseling, noting that consanguineous marriage represents one of the most important causes of disability in Egypt, as it reaches The percentage of marriage between first- and second-degree relatives is 30%.
She also stressed the need to confront the phenomenon of child marriage because of its serious health and social effects, noting that this type of marriage often takes place without conducting the necessary tests or Medical advice, which exposes girls to health risks such as preeclampsia and cesarean section, which may contribute to increasing autism rates.
Alfi explained that the Ministry of Health is working, within the framework of the political leadership’s directives, to prepare health facilities to be inclusive and ready. To serve people with disabilities, the Ministry also provided specialized consulting units within health centers to provide family counseling services, raise awareness of how to deal with disability, and support efforts to integrate people with disabilities into society.
For her part, Dr. Iman Karim, General Supervisor, confirmed The National Council for Persons with Disabilities stresses the importance of developing an integrated digital health system based on artificial intelligence techniques, to raise the efficiency of health services provided to persons with disabilities. It also stressed the necessity of empowering and integrating persons with disabilities into society through training and rehabilitation programs for medical personnel, while creating a supportive environment. Technologically and spatially.
Karim added that the Council is working to strengthen partnerships between government institutions, the private sector and civil society to ensure the provision of integrated services to people with disabilities, stressing that health is not just a cost, but rather an investment that contributes to building productive and resilient societies.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participating parties stressed the importance of strengthening dialogue and partnerships between all relevant institutions, to achieve a comprehensive national vision aimed at improving the quality of life for people with disabilities, and ensuring that they obtain their full health rights, in a way that enhances their societal integration and achieves Health equity for all.
