The Minister of Local Development discusses joint cooperation with the delegation of Bavaria and German Hans Seidel
Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, met today with a delegation from the German province of Bavaria and the German Hans Seidel Foundation in Cairo, which included Florian Obamer, a representative of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, and Sophia Gutekunst – responsible for dealing with business delegations. From the Bayern International Authority of the State of Bavaria, Karin Al-Shafei, representative of the Province of Bavaria in Egypt, and Head of Operations at the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and Thomas Schama – Resident Representative of the Hans Seidel Foundation – Egypt Office, and a number of representatives of the Foundation in Cairo, in the presence of Ambassador Hossam Al-Qawish, Assistant Minister of Local Development. During the meeting, the Minister of Local Development praised the ongoing cooperation and coordination between the Ministry and the German Hans Seidel Foundation in the areas of supporting handicrafts and heritage in the governorates and the Ministry’s efforts in the field of decentralization and benefiting from German expertise in this regard.
Dr. Manal Awad also indicated her aspiration for continued cooperation and the opening of new areas that serve the plans and programs of the Ministry of Local Development with regard to training and capacity building, providing job opportunities for women and youth, as well as providing environmentally friendly means of transportation in the governorates.The Minister of Local Development also affirmed the ministry’s readiness to build on what was done during the current year in opening opportunities for cooperation between the Ministry of Local Development and the German province of Bavaria, studying the conclusion of twinning agreements between the province’s cities with the Egyptian governorates, transferring and exchanging German expertise in some sectors that distinguish the governorates, and exploiting the advantages.
For his part, Florian Obamer stressed the desire of the Province of Bavaria to open areas to enhance ways of cooperation with the Ministry and to provide all necessary support in a number of sectors in which the Ministry wishes to benefit from German experiences and expertise. p>
The meeting witnessed a review of a number of future areas of cooperation between the two sides, most notably the exchange of experiences, vocational training, improving services, regional planning systems, cooperation in the areas of developing rural areas, transferring experiences between Bavarian local administrations and Egyptian governorates, and benefiting from capacity building programmes. And the smart cities approach, in addition to benefiting from German expertise in the province regarding environmentally friendly public transportation. The German Institute for International Cooperation (Giz), in order to meet the aspirations of citizens and support the efforts of the Egyptian government in various vital fields.
The German side from the Province of Bavaria and the Hans Seidel Foundation welcomed the continuation of coordination between the two sides during the coming period; To provide all necessary support to the Ministry and the governorates in the areas that will be agreed upon.
