Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, This Saturday morning, a number of educational and health projects were opened at Alexandria University, accompanied by Dr. Abdulaziz Qanswa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, and a group of leaders from the Ministry and the University.

The Minister began his visit by opening the Vascular Catheterization Unit. At Smouha University Hospital, the unit is considered one of the most modern vascular surgery and interventional catheterization units, and contains a modern catheterization device. This unit serves a wide sector of patients who visit Alexandria University Hospitals and the surrounding governorates.

The Minister also inaugurated the unit. Cardiac care at Smouha University Hospital is equipped with two units for cardiac catheterization and coronary arteries. The unit operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The catheterization department is also equipped with a rotablator and an intracoronary ultrasound device (IVUS).

Also. The Minister opened the Manchester Building at Al-Mowasat Hospital, which is designated for study for students of the joint program in the field of medicine and surgery, in cooperation with the British University of Manchester. It consists of two buildings, an administrative building, and an educational building, consisting of 4 floors, and includes terraces, computer laboratories, and clinical simulation laboratories. , small teaching halls and a library.

Dr. Ayman Ashour opened Amphitheater 1 in the University’s College of Engineering after redeveloping and renovating it, and a number of adjacent rooms were included, in addition to some annexes to transform it into an integrated center for conferences at the university. The center consists of a main hall It is accompanied by five seminar halls of different sizes and equipped with smart screens to host seminars and various events. The main hall includes a theater equipped with all technological means. To host various events, whether cultural, artistic or scientific, in addition to a hall for VIP visitors, and service and changing rooms in the case of artistic performances.

Dr. Ayman Ashour also opened several projects in 5 university hospitals via video conference, It is the Pediatric Ophthalmology Surgery Unit at the One-Day Services Center at the Main University Hospital after its development, the Hearing and Balance Center at the One-Day Services Center after its development, the Trauma and Spinal Injuries Treatment Unit at Al-Hadra University Hospital, in addition to the radiation therapy building for treating pediatric oncology at Borg El-Arab University Hospital, which led to To increase the capacity and medical services provided to treat children with malignant tumors, a number of units were opened after their development at the main university hospital, including the first brain and nerve tumor surgery capsule of its kind in the Northern Region, in addition to the opening of some intensive care units at the main university hospital, and the opening of the laboratory. The Central Laboratory for Analysis was developed to become a central, automated laboratory to reduce the rate of human errors and increase the accuracy of medical analyses. The Stroke Unit was also developed at Al-Hadra University Hospital, which received accreditation from the World Stroke Organization.

The Minister stressed that the Ministry pays great attention to Developing medical and health services in university hospitals; As one of the basic pillars in providing health services to citizens alongside the Ministry of Health hospitals, in addition to its educational and training role in preparing highly qualified doctors, he praised the unprecedented development that these hospitals have witnessed, thanks to the unlimited support of the political leadership, pointing out that university hospitals have With the confidence of citizens due to the distinguished health services it provides. 

Dr. Ayman Ashour praised the development work taking place at Alexandria University; Which contributes to performing its mission as desired, and providing the best medical services appropriate to the citizens who frequent it, praising the important role played by Alexandria University with its distinguished cadres and scientific expertise in all specializations to serve citizens in various sectors, especially the medical and therapeutic sectors, stressing that this The achievements and development work witnessed by university hospitals reflect the great interest that the political leadership attaches to developing and modernizing university hospitals nationwide. With the aim of providing the best services to citizens, it also reflects the state’s keenness to continuously support universities to carry out their scientific, educational and societal roles as required. 

Dr. Ayman Ashour explained that university hospitals are of great importance, as their role is not limited to providing Not only student and therapeutic services for citizens, but also have an educational, training and research role, which indicates the great importance of supporting the health system in Egypt.

For his part, Dr. Abdulaziz Qanswa stressed that Alexandria University is keen to develop its educational facilities and raise the efficiency Its infrastructure; To improve the quality of the educational and research process at the university, as well as raise the efficiency of university hospitals with the aim of increasing their absorptive capacity, and improving the level of medical and therapeutic services provided to citizens, explaining that the new projects cost 514 million pounds.

Dr. Abdulaziz Qanswa indicated that university hospitals Alexandria plays a major role in providing health services to the people of Alexandria Governorate and neighboring governorates, explaining that the university is keen to provide all modern technical needs, and training on the latest developments that contribute to improving the skills of medical personnel and continuous development in the medical and health fields in order to raise the level of personnel working in the field. Health and medical services provided to citizens, in line with implementing the objectives of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research, and implementing the strategic plan adopted by the Egyptian state to support and develop the health sector; In implementation of the directives of the political leadership on the importance of doubling efforts to develop the Egyptian health system and raising the efficiency of university hospitals, which are considered the locomotive of medical service.

Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals at Alexandria University, and Acting Vice President for Educational Affairs, explained And the students said that the hospitals witnessed the implementation of many important projects to improve the level of health services provided to citizens, thanking civil society organizations and the private sector for supporting the efforts to develop university hospitals at Alexandria University.

Dr. Essam El-Badawi, Executive Director of University Hospitals at Alexandria University, confirmed that The university was keen to equip university hospitals with the latest medical equipment and increase their absorptive capacity, noting that several medical projects were implemented in hospitals, as well as the creation of several units and the development and raising of the efficiency of many departments in 5 hospitals, which are: (the main university hospital, the one-day service center, the hospital Smouha Medical Center, Burj Al-Arab Hospital, Al-Hadra University Hospital).

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the media advisor and official spokesman for the Ministry, stated that university hospitals are witnessing major development in infrastructure, as continuous expansions are being made, and the efficiency of buildings is being raised and attention is paid to equipment. Modern medicine, and supporting and developing the capabilities of its human resources; To improve the level of medical and therapeutic services provided to citizens, pointing out that the university hospitals, which number 125, receive about 25 million patients annually, explaining that the development comes within the framework of implementing the directives of the political leadership to improve the level of medical and therapeutic services provided to citizens, in line with achieving the goals of The National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
