Dr. Ayman Ashour expressed Egypt’s support for the statement of the Arab Group, which was delivered by the Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman, the statement of the African Group, which was delivered by the Permanent Representative of Botswana, and the statement of the Group of 77 and China, which was delivered by the Permanent Representative of Colombia. He thanked Ms. Audrey Azoulay for the comprehensive statement she delivered, which included a presentation of the secretariat’s efforts and activities in the areas of the organization’s competence, as well as suggestions regarding the draft program and budget for the period 2026-2029, stressing that the Arab Republic of Egypt looks forward to the UNESCO Secretariat continuing to consult closely with Member States. , in the process of preparing the draft program and budget to ensure maximizing countries’ benefits from the organization’s various programmes, and enhancing their ability to perform their role efficiently and effectively in all their sectors.
Dr. Ayman Ashour appreciated the fruitful cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO, especially in light of the issuance of A decision during the 217th session of the organization’s Executive Council regarding the “Egyptian Knowledge Bank,” stressing that Egypt received a delegation of UNESCO officials and member states during last May; To review the developments in the implementation of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank initiative, and to discuss ways to transfer its expertise to member states, explaining that the “Egyptian Knowledge Bank” initiative One of the most prominent topics raised during the last session of UNESCO Digital Learning Week, which witnessed the launch of a UNESCO study on this matter.
Ashour noted the cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO, especially since the issuance of the Executive Council’s decision in its last session regarding the “Work” initiative. for adaptation in the water sector and resilience “AWARe”, stressing that this cooperation was fruitful during the twenty-sixth session of the Government Council of the International Hydrological Program.
The Minister of Higher Education pointed out that Egypt attaches great importance to submerged cultural heritage. He continued, saying that Egypt praises the support received by Dr. Khaled El-Anani’s candidacy for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, especially in light of the support issued by the Executive Council of the African Union at its meeting in Addis Ababa in Last February, then in Accra last July, in addition to supporting the recent Arab summit held in Manama last May, which approved Dr. Khaled Al-Anani" The only official candidate for Arab countries.
