The Minister of Health reviews the future of digital pathology as a step towards improving health care

  Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, held a meeting to discuss developments in the project to establish an integrated national network for digital pathology, tissue and cell examination, and “remote” diagnosis, using artificial intelligence.

 

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the meeting comes within the framework of developing laboratory analysis services for oncology patients, to improve the health system, in accordance with international standards, to achieve the goals and vision of “Egypt 2030”.

 

"Abdul Ghaffar" pointed out To the Minister’s emphasis on developing the health sector and supporting the establishment of fair and strong health systems that help improve health care services provided to Egyptian oncology patients, while working to expand health tourism services.

 

“Abdul Ghaffar” added: The Minister reviewed the project proposal regarding diagnosis, treatment and follow-up through “remote” diagnosis. To reduce the burden on patients, improve the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosing tumors, by using digital technology to examine cells and tissues and convert them into analyzable digital data, and support the use of artificial intelligence tools to reduce the possibility of human errors.

 

Abdul Ghaffar pointed out: The presentation also included how to support “telemedicine” And allowing patients to access all medical services, resources and expert opinions, explaining that one of the most important goals of the project included in the presentation is developing the analysis system using artificial intelligence mechanisms to examine digital images of cells and tissues, and storing, retrieving and sharing pathology data, which facilitates information management. 

"Abdul Ghaffar" continued; The offer included providing a platform for training laboratory teams on modern technologies, supporting scientific research, exchanging experiences in examining and diagnosing tissues and cells inside and outside Egypt, and supporting training for doctors in “remote” diagnosis. By reviewing digital slides of tissues and cells, which allows access to a wider range of cases, while supporting research initiatives by providing large data sets for analysis.

 

"Abdul Ghaffar added" ; The Minister directed the formation of a committee that includes Dr. Amr Kandil, Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Dr. Maha Ibrahim, and Dr. Nancy El-Gendy in order to follow up on the executive steps, and present proposals and ways to provide support for the National Network for Pathology and “Remote” Diagnosis project

 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Amr Kandil, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health for Public Health Initiatives, Dr. Rady Hammad, Head of the Preventive Medicine Sector, Dr. Maha Ibrahim, Head of the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers, and Dr. Nancy El Gendy, Head of Administration. Central Laboratories, and Dr. Elham Abdel Rahman, Director of Systems and Information at the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers.
