The Minister of Health follows up on waiting lists for a marrow transplant

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, held a meeting with a number of the ministry’s leaders, to follow up on developments in the national project to end waiting lists for marrow transplantation, at the ministry’s office in the New Administrative Capital.

 

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting discussed the World Health Organization’s report, which stated an increase in cancer rates internationally, with approximately 100 people getting cancer every year. 400,000 children and adolescents, between the ages of less than one year and 19 years, which results in an increased need for marrow transplantation for high-risk cases that recover after recovery.

 

«Abdul Ghaffar» said: The meeting included a presentation of cases that require bone marrow transplantation, including (leukemia, high-risk nerve ganglion tumors, cases of bone marrow failure, severe immunodeficiency diseases, Mediterranean anemia, some brain tumors and sickle cell anemia), in addition to presenting the main sources of marrow transplantation and its types. , especially the main steps of the farming process.

 

«Abdul Ghaffar» added Egypt’s status in the file of bone marrow transplantation was reviewed, as it is considered one of the first countries in Africa and the Arab world in the field of bone marrow transplantation, and at the international level. Egypt is also an active member in many international organizations related to bone marrow transplantation, such as (CIBMTR), in addition to chairing Egypt, the African group affiliated with the International Organization for Marrow Transplantation.

 

Abdul Ghaffar continued: During the meeting, it included a detailed explanation of the executive position for marrow transplant operations, in addition to reviewing a detailed statement about the size of the contribution of hospitals with their various authorities in marrow transplant operations (university, private, secretariat of medical centers, armed forces, private), in addition to discussing the challenges related to transplant operations. Marrow with regard to medicines, supplies, and medical personnel.

 

In the same context, «Abdul Ghaffar» The Minister directed the preparation of a detailed statement on the availability of the necessary medicines, and he also directed the formation of a committee to select and attract human resources from medical staff to prepare them and provide training opportunities inside and outside Egypt, to create and prepare skilled human cadres, in order to ensure the health of patients. 

 

«Abdul Ghaffar» During the meeting, the future map for bone marrow transplantation was reviewed. (2025-2030), which includes 4 main axes: (increasing absorptive capacity, training and continuing education, mechanization and digital transformation, and international accreditations), in addition to directing the Assistant Minister to national projects to increase 100 marrow transplant beds with the necessary controls, and handing them over in January 2026, as he directed. The Minister called for the necessity of linking all marrow transplant centers together, and preparing a medical record for each patient, within the framework of the state’s drive for mechanization and transformation. Digital.

 

«Abdul Ghaffar» drew; To the future vision of bone marrow transplant units, as the Ministry aims to increase recovery rates for cancer patients, increase absorptive capacity, eliminate waiting lists, create a new generation of doctors, stimulate tourism and study the possibility of serving bone marrow transplantation in new governorates. The Minister also directed to discuss the possibility of promoting the procedure. Marrow transplant operations in Egypt, to increase the rates of medical tourism, in addition to directing the study of the proposal to establish a specialized center for marrow transplantation in Egypt, and studying the proposal to form a higher committee, to supervise and follow up on the implementation steps. The project.

 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Anwar Ismail, Assistant Minister for National Projects, Dr. Peter Wagih, Head of the Therapeutic Medicine Sector, Dr. Maha Ibrahim, Head of the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers, and Dr. Ahmed Mustafa, Assistant Head of the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers for Oncology, and Dr. Mahmoud Hammad, Director of the Nasser Institute Oncology Center.
