Minister of the Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, stressed the importance of the next phase of the twenty-ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to meet the aspirations and hopes of the people, which is an important stage for reaching results from the leadership of the bilateral ministerial teams appointed by the Presidency of the Conference to assist in conducting the negotiations of a number Among pressing issues, including climate financing, mitigation and adaptation, and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
This came on the sidelines of its participation in the ministerial segment of the twenty-ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Convention. COP29 in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, whose activities began on November 11 and will continue until the 22nd of the same month, under the slogan “Investing in a livable planet for all,” after I participated a few days ago in the activities of the presidential sector within a delegation headed by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly on behalf of The President of the Republic.
During her participation, Dr. Yasmine Fouad will assume a major task by assuming joint leadership with Chris Bone, the Australian Minister of the Environment, in conducting the negotiations for the new collective goal of climate financing, representing… Regarding developing countries, in light of the countries’ hopes for the COP29 climate conference to come up with a new goal for climate financing as a “financing conference,” within the framework of the inevitability of climate financing to help developing countries and the most affected communities adapt to the effects of climate change, and also implement mitigation measures.
The Minister of Environment indicated that, during her leadership of the climate financing negotiations, she is keen to highlight the financing demands of developing countries threatened by the effects of climate change, and to come up with a new financing goal that is transparent, clear, and accessible. and the balance between the interests of various countries, as it is the most important step to accelerate action to address the climate crisis.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad participates in a number of the activities of the conference’s thematic days, such as tourism and transportation days, Biodiversity, nature, coastal areas and indigenous peoples, and participates in the high-level round table on linking climate and biodiversity to achieve a nature-friendly future and implement the Paris Agreement.
The Minister of Environment will hold – On the sidelines of her participation in the conference, a number of bilateral meetings were held with a number of ministers of different countries and representatives of international organizations to discuss joint cooperation.
