The Minister of Electricity meets with the Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, began his participation in the activities of the fifteenth session of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency “IRENA” In a meeting with Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, and the accompanying delegation, a meeting was held to discuss ways to support and enhance cooperation and partnership between Egypt and the Agency, especially in the areas of training and qualifying cadres and preparing studies and policies in various related fields and the clean energy sector and new and renewable energies.
The meeting discussed the fruitful cooperation between Egypt and the agency since its establishment, and the desire of both parties to develop cooperation and coordination in more common fields and topics. The ongoing projects were reviewed, including training projects proposed to be implemented in cooperation with the African Development Bank, Egypt, and the International Renewable Energy Agency, as well as the importance of Egypt’s participation in activities related to wind energy and the energy strategy in Egypt, which was recently adopted to rely on renewable energy, reduce traditional fuel consumption, and reduce carbon emissions. The Director General of the Agency also praised the efforts made by Egypt in the field of renewable energy, which led to doubling renewable capabilities and the existence of the ambitious plan adopted by the government in Egypt on the path to energy transformation and the economy. Dr. Mahmoud Esmat said that there is close cooperation between the electricity sector and the agency and that Egypt chairs a number of important committees in the agency and also participates in the membership of its specialized councils and committees, expressing his aspiration To receive the Director General of the Agency and his accompanying delegation in Egypt during the coming weeks, referring to the energy strategy, expansion of renewable energies, energy transformation, energy storage projects using battery technology, the pumping and storage project, and other projects that It is being worked on to achieve sustainability and stability for the Egyptian network, explaining the importance of regional electrical interconnection projects between Egypt and neighboring countries, pointing to the Egyptian-Saudi and Jordanian interconnection and the interconnection between Egypt and Libya in addition to the interconnection between Egypt and Sudan, and working to implement interconnection projects with southern European countries through the proposed interconnection lines.
