The Minister of Agriculture discusses with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa initiatives to support rural women
Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, discussed with the delegation of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) the prospects for joint cooperation, during the presence of the Commission delegation in Cairo to participate in a continental workshop to validate the guidelines for enhancing land tenure security for women in Africa. 
During the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture reviewed the main government strategies, programs and initiatives that promote agricultural transformation and women’s empowerment.
He said" Egypt is ready to support and participate in programs with other African countries to strengthen agricultural food value chains that enhance added value and social and economic transformation.”
Farouk stressed that the presidential (Decent Life) initiative strengthens more than 300 agricultural complexes in 20 governorates. As an example, he pointed to the importance of comprehensive programs that achieve multiple sustainable development goals, adding that the initiative is successful and can provide lessons for other African countries on how to further achieve goals related to health, education, women’s empowerment, gender equality, and infrastructure. And manufacturing and finance to a large extent.
The Minister called on the Economic Commission for Africa to work in cooperation with other United Nations agencies to create programs that facilitate the expansion of the scope of successful initiatives to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2063 Agenda.
For its part, Dr. Joan Kagwanga, Head of Agricultural and Land Transformation and Coordinator of the African Land Policy Center at the Economic Commission for Africa, praised Egypt’s efforts to transform agriculture, including promoting women’s land rights, noting that Egypt played an active role in developing the framework. and the Guiding Principles for Land Policy in Africa, which were endorsed in the 2009 African Union Summit Declaration.
The ECA delegation included Dr. Medhat Al-Halabi, who leads ECA’s work in strengthening the capacity of member states to develop food systems Climate resistance, regional agricultural value chains, and agricultural parks.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Alaa Azouz, Head of the Agricultural Extension Sector and Coordinator of the “Decent Life” Initiative at the Ministry of Agriculture, and Dr. Ali Abdel Mohsen, Head of the Economic Affairs Sector. In the Ministry.
