In Paiporta (Spain), Thursday November 28, a car cemetery is the most visible mark of the deadly floods which ravaged the city a month earlier. On October 29, 45 people lost their lives. This is the heaviest toll in the region. Four people are still missing. A family, relocated with relatives in Valencia (Spain), returns every day to see their house. Moisture has seeped into the walls. It comes from the basement which had been flooded in more than three meters of water.
The town of Paiporta is bruised, fractured. For the thousands of residents still there, daily life is punctuated by food distributions. Residents are deprived of drinking water, their businesses and seven of the eight schools. Tuesday, November 26, a supermarket is the first to reopen its doors. Fresh produce is once again available and customers are returning to a semblance of normality.
