The Great Imam reveals the secret of associating the great name of God with the Most High and the Transcendent
His Eminence the Grand Imam, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, revealed the secret of the association of the name of God Almighty with “the Great” In the name of God the Most High and the name of God the Most High, as it came in Surah Luqman in His Almighty’s saying “And indeed God is the Most High, the Great,” and His saying in Surat Al-Ra’ad “The Knower of the Unseen and the Witnessed, the Great and Most High,” explaining that the word “ ;large» If it is taken purely linguistically, we will find that it refers to the characteristics of events or creatures, so it means old, bloated, or larger in body, and these are sensory meanings, so since this name may be understood in one way or another, or its meaning may sometimes lead – for the unwary – to The sensual meaning, it was mentioned in the Holy Qur’an with this standard, the Most High, the Great, and the Great, the Transcendent, pointing out that both are understood as transcendence, for He is the Great, the Exalted, absolutely supreme, such that it eliminates any doubt that this Great is what the sensual meaning applies to.

Regarding the virtue of praising God with the phrase (God is great, and praise be to God greatly), the Sheikh of Al-Azhar explained that it is part of remembering God Almighty and praising Him and it has its reward, and it was also mentioned in some hadiths in which the Eid takbirs were mentioned, which include When the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, entered Mecca as a conqueror, his appearance at that time was not that of a conqueror, but he was lowering his honorable head on his camel without being arrogant, despite the abuse he suffered from its people, while he could have destroyed them with a gesture of his finger, but he entered and was saying (No There is no god but God alone. His promise was true, His servant was victorious, and He alone defeated the parties. This is one of the takbirs of Eid narrated by Imam Al-Shafi’i, may God be pleased with him. He, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not add victory to itself, saying, “These are the prophets,” as he was stripped of all this greatness that he was. He caused it, and it applies to him if he wanted it completely, but he stripped it of length and length and attributed it to God Almighty. Repeatedly, about calling the head of the family by the name “elder,” as in Upper Egypt, considering that this person is of great age and status, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar pointed out that if the servant is described as “elder,” the meaning is very incomplete, as oldness here does not mean age, but rather it means sovereignty and control, which is The servant is deficient, but when it is applied to God Almighty, it is holy, and sacred means free from imperfection, and what is deficient is impure, tinged with the shortcomings found in humans, such as injustice, flattery, and bias. As for the great, when the divine essence is described, he is absolutely great, free from everything that disgraces. The great human being, the difference is in the pronunciation and not in the meaning.
Regarding how to translate the great name of God Almighty in our practical lives, His Eminence the Greatest Imam explained that man must imitate God’s morals to the extent he can. His human nature can tolerate it, indicating that each of God’s beautiful names has manifestation, and has revelations and indications, and that the intelligent Muslim is the one who realizes and applies to himself as much as he can the beauty or majesty of this or that name.
