Florida is the heart of a cultural battle. In this state led by Republican Ron DeSantis, two visions, one progressive and the other ultraconservative, collide. Citizens are sometimes at odds and engaged in a book war. For a long time, New College University was one of the most left-wing in Florida. But a few weeks ago, students passing through the library noticed hundreds of books had been placed in boxes or on the sidewalk.
“It was shocking to see them thrown in the trash. There were so many of them, whole piles, it made me terribly angry”testifies one of the young people, Natalia Benavides. Despite their intervention, most of the books were sent to a recycling center to be destroyed. These works belonged to a student association promoting diversity.
