the Competition Authority calls for the elimination of regulated prices

Will EDF’s regulated tariff soon disappear? The offer, set by the State, is no longer to the taste of the Competition Authority which wants to eliminate it. The administrative authority responsible for combating anti-competitive practices considers that these prices remain too high when prices on the market fall. Concretely, for an apartment of 50 m2 heated with electricity, the bill amounts to 1,586 euros per year with the regulated rate. Today, other suppliers offer contracts 20 to 23% cheaper, but less protective according to the CRE.

Indeed, the Energy Regulatory Commission wants to maintain regulated electricity prices for five additional years. For its part, the government must submit its opinion to the European Union at the end of the year. It remains to be seen whether electricity will suffer the same fate as gas, of which the regulated prices were deleted last year.
