The best organising hack of 2024: Why a $4.50 item from Kmart is flying off the shelves for its multi-purpose use

An Australian cleaning and organising guru has shared her number one hack of 2024 using a $4.50 Kmart product and common cupboard staple.

Anita Birges, who heads Mise en Place Professional Organisingrevealed the simple idea anyone can use in their home to store belongings.

In a video, she used a paper towel stand from Kmart and an adhesive hook to create a wall hanger.

With the stand attached to the hook horizontally, it can be used to hang multiple hats, headbands, hair clips, scrunchies, bags and spare coat hangers.

‘Listen up because you are going to love this DIY organising hack! There’s so many uses for this one, check it out,’ Anita declared in the video.

First she gently bent the paper towel stand on a slight angle to ensure the items don’t slip off. She then placed different items on the hanger.

The short video quickly exceeded more than 69,000 views and many thanked Anita for sharing the ‘fantastic’ idea.

‘Perfect idea, thank you so much,’ one wrote.

‘Because of this, you no longer hear me asking where we keep spare hangers,’ another said.

A third added: ‘I have one of these hanging in the toilet room used by males in my house to hold spare toilet rolls. I don’t like items on the floor.’

The handy tip is also a great alternative to installing shelves or permanent wall hooks.

Last year Anita also shared her simple hack for preventing mould and deterring pests in your wardrobe.

Anita recommended using jumbo pieces of chalk along with clove, lavender, and peppermint essential oils to solve all your problems.

The expert simply adds a few drops of clove oil onto a jumbo chalk stick and puts it in her drawer to absorb moisture and kill mould spores.

You can find the chalk at various Aussie retailers including Kmart – where you can buy a pack of 20 for just $3.25.

Anita recommends placing the DIY deterrents down the side of your drawers and on the very top shelf of your wardrobe without a container.

The professional also revealed that it was best to stick to white-coloured chalk so that pigment doesn’t bleed onto your clothes.

You’ll need some drops of lavender oil on another piece of chalk to get rid of moths and silver fish.

Lastly, peppermint oil does wonders to leave your drawers smelling fresh and discourages spiders, mice, and other creepy crawlies.

Anita recommends putting two to three drops of essential oil per jumbo piece of chalk.

She purchases all her oils at her local chemist.
