TEST RATINGS: Gus Atkinson was not England’s only 10/10 performer at Lord’s but two of his team-mates really struggled against Sri Lanka
England wrapped up a series victory over Sri Lanka after beating the tourists by 190 runs at Lord’s.
Gus Atkinson was named as the official Player of the Match after scoring 118 off 115 balls in England’s first innings, before taking seven wickets, including a five-for on Sunday.
Atkinson also scored a perfect 10 in LAWRENCE BOOTH’s player ratings for the second Test.
He was not the only 10/10 performer, though.
Read on to discover who else earned a perfect score and and which two players were marked at just 3/10.
A five-for by Gus Atkinson (second from the left) helped England beat Sri Lanka at Lord’s
Ben Duckett 6/10
Yet to stamp his mark on the series after a pair of freakish dismissals: a top-edged reverse sweep, then a parry by gully to slip.
Dan Lawrence 3/10
Made nine and seven, and looked even less of an opener than he did during the first Test in Manchester. But England are likely to give him one more game.
Ollie Pope 3/10
Two horror dismissals seemed to confirm his pre-match admission that the captaincy is weighing heavily. Signs of progress in the field, but the experiment will soon be over.
Batsman Ollie Pope scored just 18 runs across his two innings following two horror dismissals
Harry Brook 6.5/10
Totalled 70 off 81 balls, all but sacrificing his wicket in the second innings in pursuit of quick runs. But it’s hard to escape the feeling England could be getting more from him.
Jamie Smith 6/10
Slightly subdued in England’s first innings but managed a quick 26 in the second. Didn’t go for an early chance offered by Madushka.
Joe Root 10/10
By the time he passed Alastair Cook for an England-record 34 Test hundreds, Lord’s had run out of superlatives. Averages 88 since his infamous scoop shot in Rajkot. Would be churlish to dock him anything for his shaky catching.
Joe Root’s 34th Test century saw him beat an England record previously held by Alastair Cook
Chris Woakes 6.5/10
Deserved even better than match figures of four for 67, but contributed little with the bat at No 7.
Matthew Potts 7/10
Accurate and hard-working, he broke open Sri Lanka’s first innings by removing Mathews and De Silva in a double-wicket maiden. Useful first-innings runs, too.
Gus Atkinson 10/10
A century from No 8 and a third Lord’s five-for in two Tests here. Is there nothing he can’t do?
In addition to his seven wickets, Atkinson scored a brilliant century in England’s first innings
Olly Stone 6.5/10
Went at five an over, but removed Karunaratne and Nissanka in both innings, and was happy to be used as England’s battering ram in his first Test in three years.
Shoaib Bashir 6/10
Still learning his trade, as you’d expect of a 20-year-old, but produced a beautiful off-break to dismiss Jayasuriya in Sri Lanka’s first innings.
