tensions in the South-West

The face-to-face between the police and the farmers was tense in Agen (Lot-et-Garonne), Tuesday November 19 in the evening. At the call of the Rural Coordination, around a hundred farmers gathered in front of the prefecture. They dumped waste and tires, while bales of hay were set on fire. The firefighters intervened, protected by the police.

In the afternoon, the prefect agreed to receive around ten demonstrators, including José Perez and Karine Duc, leaders of the Rural Coordination, expelled from the prefecture when they refused to leave the premises. Punch actions, the trademark of this radical union, are increasing. On the A9 motorway, the Boulou toll (Pyrénées-Orientales), on the Spanish border, is busy. Freight trucks are blocked. There are many angers. Rural Coordination wants to intensify the blocking of food freight by targeting purchasing centers.
